I have a savings account and a lock box at the Washington Federal branch in White City, OR, simply because I had an account at South Valley Bank and Trust.  I went in today to access my lock box and to get my friend access to the box as well.  I signed in and was allowed to take my friend back with me to access the box.  When my business was complete, i was told to wait while they found out how to give my friend access to the box.  After a considerable wait, both outside the office and while the staff person was on the telephone trying to find out how to do this, we were told that a new contract must be signed by both my husband and myself.  My husband was not with us, and, keep in mind, my friend had already been granted access to the box earlier within the hour.  South Valley Bank and Trust has been named as the trustee for our family trust so I am loathe to pay my attorney to change institutions but, if this is an example of the service I can expect from Washington Federal, then I am tempted to do so.  This extra layer of bureaucracy seemed to me to be wholly unnecessary, considering they had already allowed my friend access to the box.  In the past I have given this same friend access to my lock box at no less than 4 other banking institutions with adequate identification and with a signature.  I am not happy.  I much prefer the service I got from South Valley Bank and Trust to the service I got from Washington Federal today on my first visit to them since they bought South Valley.  As an aside, the first person we encountered today kept referring to my friend as my "son" even though he is 62 and I am 65.  This shows very little attention to detail.  She was not the one who kept us waiting and who was requiring that my both my husband and I sign a new contract before my friend could have access to the box.  I left the bank far less than satisfied.  Further, I resent the requirement to establish an account in order to make a complaint and no where am I asked for my name.
