I have banked at US Bank (specifically the Ward Parkway branch in Kansas City) for eight years.  I can't WAIT to not bank there ever again (as soon as the last checks clear...)
 - For starters, they have been charging us a %6.90 surcharge for internet banking for two years.  We've asked them on six different occasions to remove the charge and they've always agreed but it's still there every month.
 - I took out a Home Equity line of credit there a couple years ago.  Told them we were only going to need it for a few months and ended up paying it off in about seven months.
 - When I went to close it because we were refinancing our house (not through US Bank, thank goodness), they charged us $500 to close the account.  AN account that we paid off in good faith and weren't using!
 - The branch sales manager said there was "nothing they could do" because it was in the contract that they charge up to $500 for early termination.  Funny how they never brought that up when I said I wouldn't need the loan for >1 year.  The best part is that IN THE SAME CONTRACT it says that US Bank can at any time, remove any fees even if they are in writing and in the customer's best interest.  This did not seem to disuade them in collecting the $500 (it's like they get a commission on fees or something).
 - The person I dealt with - initials AJH - was rude, dismissive and seemed totally ambivalent to "my problem."  Of course, his bank's tactics were my problem.

I find the ethics of US Bank - at least this branch - to be what the general public seems to feel about the banking industry right now.  There are good and ethical bankers, but the ones that will do anything to anyone to scheme out a few extra dollars are giving the industry a bad name.

If you need a home equity line of credit, a checking account or even a free toaster, I recommend going elsewhere.  I sent an e-mail to their corporate office to complain, but I'm pretty sure that it will be treated with the same disinterest with which the local branch treated the complaint. As soon as the last check clears I will guiltlessly close the accounts I have there and happily walk away, poorer but wiser from the experience.

We banked there for several years. The staff at our local branch were always very nice, helpful, and knowledgeable. However, the bank itself had a very nasty habit of just arbitrarily helping itself to my money randomly. They would claim a payment is due on the account so they took $x.xx out. They never did it on the same date. They would oftentimes take it out right after I made a payment. A few weeks ago, they took a payment out, and then took another one out for the same thing the next day. The second one was A very small amount like $6.37. I called and asked why they took two payments out and got the usual double-speak from the operator at the 800 number. When these "payments" cause an overdraft they are extremely quick to hit your account with OD charges. This happened a couple of weeks ago and it took that account down to a positive $1.00 but they still charged me a $35 OD fee anyway. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. US Bank is a bunch of thieves. There are MUCH better places to bank.

Just spoke with the teller manager, who apparently very much does not understand the definition of customer service. I work in the finance industry as the investor relations coordinator and have dealt with my fair share of frustrating situations involving clients. But, not in my life would I ever consider being blatantly rude and condescending to them!

No experience I have ever had with any bank, will ever top this instance of utter immaturity and deficiency. Get it together.

Previous commenter was all wet!  My experiences with US Bank over past 10 years has been uniformly excellent.   The manager, the bankers, the tellers all are friendly efficient and polite.   I have recommended many of my clients to them.

Bank Branch Manager "Stella" needs a complete training course on customer service. Stay away from this bank if you know what is good for you. They will close your account with limited or no warning and send the information to the Credit Bureaus leaving you months to correct their mistakes or aggressive tactics.

Over draft charges
 1star Overall Rating
by Debbra73, May. 13, 2011

I have been a customer for a long time. I have encountered a few over draft charges and some they did reimburse me for. But recently, I went into a negative .43 and was charged $33.00 for that, and then two other came through which were less then $10.00 and I got charged $10.00 for each of them. I find that ridiculous. I do all my banking online and follow everything there so it's hard to keep track of what's pending and what's not.
Not to mention this whole ordeal with being charged a monthly fee unless you get direct deposit or transfer funds into a savings. I have a business account and they wouldn't consider that as a direct deposit? Come on now. Not to mention I have 2 checking accounts and 4 savings accounts. And then they want to charge me $53.00 in over draft fees??? RIPOFF
I will be closing my accounts this week and moving to another bank.

I am appauled that the manager at the Ferndale, WA branch would rather I close my accounts (in excess of $350,000.00) rather than to try and work with me.  I am not a risk to this bank.  I have been a customer for over 10 years and felt that the manager there could have cared less if I ever came back.  What ever happened to custoemr service??  I'm sure if you talk to the manager there, she'll know who you are talking about.  There is no way she should be in that position - she does not know how to deal with peole and certainly does not consider the banks best interest.  Her main theme was to prove her point, with no condiderations.  So be it.  There are other banks in town and I'll share my VERY NEGATIVE experience with everyone who will listen.

Terrible Customer Service - Greedy Fees

by rmurphyco, Apr. 29, 2011

For a bank that prides themselves on "5 Star Service," I have never encountered any establishment that is so happy to lose a long-standing customer over a paltry sum. When I opened my account four years ago, I declined overdraft coverage and asked that instead my account not be permitted to be in the negative balance (bounce checks, decline card, etc.) To my surprise, I recently found myself in the negative after the bank allowed a transfer to go through with a total of $141 of overdraft/negative balance fees.
After a nightmare string of conversations with their 800 number, I went to the Avon branch to speak with a representative who called the Edwards office and confirmed that they would remove all fees. Two days later, I receive a call from the Edwards Branch Manager, Mickey Barros, who informed me that as a courtesy they would refund half of the charges. Despite the circumstances in which I opened my account, and despite that I had been told by his staff two days earlier that all charges would be removed, he claimed, “that was all they could do.” I then asked, “are you saying that US Bank will gladly lose a customer over $70,” to which he (in so many words) replied yes.

Do NOT bank with US Bank. Starting with the summer of 2011, they will be charging for all checking accounts (with a few loophole tactics – read the fine print); it is just the beginning of the greedy unwaivable fees.

*To be fair, after this incident I called the regional manager and all charges were removed. I would still opt for a bank that was less of a hassle.

I have never complained about anything before like this but..
I AM DISAPPOINTED! The new employees at the Brentwood Publix branch are so rude and unprofessional. I am treated like a complete stranger every time I walk up to the counter, which is once a week.
After my service today, I have decided to remove my money from USBANK, which is the bank I have been with for over 8 years. Not only was the banker inexcusably rude to me, but once she gave me my money (leaving me to count it) she dismissed me. I was confused and asked her for my balance which I usually get automatically. She then said my account balance OUT LOUD once and dismissed me again.  I did not not receive a receipt for my transaction and DID NOT appreciate my account amount being said aloud for everyone at the counter to hear. USBANK lost a very good cudtomer today and my husbands.

$50 of fees because my statements were returned back to them? UNHEARD OF. So I tell the manager my situation that I just moved to the apartment and ask her if she could cut me a break. She basically spits in my face and tells me to be more responsible. I give her a question and she cannot answer, instead she decides to make an accusation that my mother got the statements and mailed them back. So not only is she greedy, but her cognition must be a tad bit on the slow side.

I spoke with my old US Bank about the situation and they were appalled with her behavior. She did perform some other notable distasteful actions, but if you don't take my advice from what I've already said then it won't have any effect on you.

I have accounts with them long enough that it originally was 3 other banks that were purchased years ago, over time it has ended up being Us Bank for the last 10 years.  Now not only have they moved to a new location that is out of the way but they want to start charging for their services.  With the mistakes they make, inconvenient location and now I have to make sure I do certain things to not have fees.  Get real the only reason I even have your account is because of the convenience and I would deal with their mistakes, but not that is not the case.
Terrible location!

uUS Bank has been HORRIBLE to deal with.  My father died in October.  Finally getting around to transferring his accounts.

The "call center" told me I had to take "the needed papers" to the local office in Oconomowoc but could NOT tell me what those papers were.

I went to the branch three weeks ago and dropped off the death certificate with a so-called "banker." She told me I needed a notarized affidavit.  I printed one off, filled it out and dropped it off with a teller since she was busy with a customer.

Two weeks go by with no contact from anyone. I stopped in and talked to the branch "manager" on Tuesday #/31/15 as the "banker" was out for the day.  The "manager" said I would receive a call the next day when this "banker" returned.

This is now the night of Friday, 4/3/15 and guess what---NO CALLS AGAIN.

This whole operation is pathetic.

After getting repeated calls, voicemails and offers to switch my high APR credit card to a lower one, I decided to stop in my local branch to speak to someone in person.  I waited 20 minutes while listening to two Personal Bankers talk about allergies.  Hello, I'm waiting for one of you guys to help me!!!  I left and decided to come back another day when sudden allergies wasn't the main topic or priority.  After I spoke to one of the Personal Bankers, she said that she'd reverse some shady charges that automatically happened from online banking, also said she'd get me a lower APR, and she'd call me back by that evening to let me know.

Its been over a week and I haven't heard from USBANK and none of the things she said she would do have been done.

Bottom line:  waste of time and money.  This bank has taken hundreds of dollars in overdraft fees from me (before it became semi-illegal and before banks let you 'opt out' of courtesy overdraft coverage), and I paid over $600 in acount management fees and interest assessed fees last year alone.

I'm closing my account this week and joining a credit union.

They hold your money for a week and turn around and charge you for all the stuff that bounces. None of the checks would have bounced if they didn't put a 10 day hold on it. And the manager told me to call her(Melissa) to release the hold so the first time I do. She treats me like Im a dead beat and wont release the hold.

They told me to leave then the security dude got all crazy and threatened to force me out. They were just being dick heads. This is a VERY Crappy bank that treats you like garbage for no reason

They are so slow because they want to charge you overdraft fees. They call you on your phone and nag you about your over priced loans that you're paying on time. They suck their rates suck and you won't get very good value from this bank.

. . . this place sucks!  Between being told that if I opened the new account right then (and it was the last day/chance) that I would receive a $75.00 incentive, and the fact that they set up the account with the wrong address . . . AND my checks were never ordered . . . and let's not forget the inability to return phone calls regarding any of the above, or to even answer their phone (still trying :-D) . . . this place simply sucks!  I'll be transfering this account to my other branch.  Sad part is, I was "helped" by the "Senior Banker".  You would think the little twerp would have learned something about customer service (and how not to lie) prior to having been given that title.  However, I do have to say that my branch downtown is absolutely FAB-ulous!!!

This bank is a ripoff with incompetent personnel who give contradictory and inaccurate information.  They are very slow to process deposits...even cash deposited thru an ATM can take five days.  However they are VERY quick to process payments or withdrawals made on a debit card.  Consequently, they get to charge you their BELOVED, inflated, hi-profit $33 or $66 overdraft fees.

This is the worst bank ever!!! They are a bunch of crooks! They charge you tone of fee's even though you have over draft protection. I can understand one but they charged me 3! They the dumbest reward program ever. You have to go to a few select stores just to earn cash back and you have to have $5 before you can redeem them and mine has been at $4.88 for two years! My mother in law banks with chase and they have a great reward program . You get points where ever you use your card. She got a check in the mail for $60 for like 3 months worth of points. US Bank has their shackles around me and will not let go.  Out of desperation I took out a $50,000 loan with them for college.  They also told me that I would only have to pay the interest back for 5 years after I graduated.  This all changed once I couldn't make my payments.  First they told me that it was 5 years from when I took out the loan, not after I graduated (LIE) then they told me that I couldn't defer due to how much I owed.  That doesn't make any sense!  I'm trying to pay them and they WILL NOT work with me.  It's all or nothing with these people.  DO NOT take out loans with U.S. Bank.  They are a terrible business that should have been shut down a long time ago.  I'd like to meet the CEO so I could slap him across the face for what they get away with.

Problem with Western Union service at U.S. Bank Tullahoma, TN

Problem with Western Union service at U.S Bank Branch in Tullahoma, TN
I do NOT have an account with U.S. Bank or at this branch office.
However, I needed to send some money to an individual/business using the Western Union service that is provided by this bank (US Bank #0276).  I wanted to use a credit card to pay for the money transfer which Western Union claims that you can do from most Western Union agents.  I found out that I could not send as much money as I wanted to send and was told the maximum amount was $7,000.  I decided to go ahead and send the maximum allowable amount and put it on my credit card which had an outstanding credit balance much larger than the $7,000 that was going to send.  I even showed them an account printout of my credit card which I had just printed out showing that indeed I had much more than the $7K balance. I also showed them a photo ID (driver's license) and told them my Social Security number.  All seemed to be going well.  However, the teller/clerk then went over and talked to another person and came back and told me that they could not do the transfer because I did not have an account with the U.S. Bank.  I explained that I did not understand why because a Western Union transaction of funds should not have anything to do with whether or not I had an account at that bank or not.  The teller/clerk then went and talked to the manager and both of them came back and informed me that they could not do the Western Union transfer of funds using my credit card because I did not have an account at their bank.  They said that I should go to my bank just down the street and get a cash advance on my credit card and then bring back the cash to them and then they would send the funds via Western Union.
I could not believe what I was hearing. I still don't understand why they could not do this Western Union transfer using my credit card just because I did not have an account at their bank.  There was no way that I should have to go get a cash advance on my credit card and then bring it back to them to do a Western Union transfer.  If I got the cash from my bank, I would have just sent a cashier's check using overnight mail or Fedex and saved some money (since I would not have had to pay the Western Union fees).
It made me mad, but I didn't say anything.  I just left and I knew that I would never, ever set foot in that bank again.
Anyway, I then went to my local Kroger's store who also is a Western Union agent.  They cheerfully waited on me and informed me that I could send up to $7,500 using just my credit card.  I filled out the forms, showed my ID, etc. and then swipe my card and instantly was approved.  I was able to send the maximum allowable amount using my credit card to do a Western Union transfer.
If a local Kroger's grocery store can do a Western Union transfer using a credit card, why can't a U.S Bank do it???   Guess what?  I don't have a checking or savings account at my Kroger's grocery store and they did the Western Union transfer using my credit card.
I am totally disgusted and frustrated at the service that I received at the U.S Bank (#0276).  They will never get any of my business.
