Amazed at horrid customer service and rudeness

I visited to cash a check drawn from a Santander Bank account.  While waiting, I witnessed three in-lobby interactions, all of which were unsettling: An elderly lady almost in tears because her recent deposit of approx. $8,000 somehow was missing (teller seemed completely disinterested or incompetent in helping her); A person who came in and asked to use the restroom and was rudely told "NO"; Another woman who had questions and the employee kept repeating "I Don't Know".  The teller that waited on me informed me there was a $6 fee for cashing the  check.  I responded "Are you serious?"  She said "Yes, unless you want to open an account."  I told her "There's no way I would open an account here- you're not friendly or helpful."  The teller finished my transaction by only counting back my money; with not even a pleasantry, let alone asking me why I expressed a negative view of the bank.  It seemed she was either completely apathetic, or  that customer dissatisfaction was a routine thing.

Santander is the WORST excuse for a bank I have seen.  EVERYTIME I call them they cut me off.  The have the atm shut down a lunchtime everyday.  They are all extremely rude and careless.  I went to the branch in Randolph yesterday at 2:00 and there was a CLOSED sign in the atm and bank.  Don't believe their claim that they will give you $20. in your saving each month, it is a big lie, you have to jump thru hoops to get that.  I called today and they cannot find my deposit I made on 4/1 even though I have the slips right in front of me. I called again, they lost my deposit and stated they need to find it and call me back.   STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK !!!!!

Apathetic, unfriendly, terrible customer service.

Dropped by the bank this afternoon to cash a small expense check as my company doesn't process direct deposit for expenses, this is the only reason I've physically visited the bank over the past few years.  I was the only person in line with three tellers behind the counter.  One of them made eye contact but the three of them continued to chat about bank gossip for the next 1 to 2 minutes.  I realize that doesn't sound like a long time but when there is literally a single person waiting for service and three tellers, it's completely unacceptable and disrespectful.  

I was finally called up by a miserable woman named Sandra or something similar who didn't acknowledge me with a smile, a hello, nothing.  I handed over my check and ID and she began to process the transaction.  The only interaction she was "forced" to have with me was "do you have an account here?" and she completed her work.  She then handed me my cash and turned back to continue to gossip, no goodbye, no thank you, no nothing.

Seriously, get out of the customer service business completely if that's how you approach your job.  Unreal.

I'll be working diligently to transition to a new bank as quickly as possible.  Good luck to anyone that keeps this sh!tter of a bank in business.

I went to the Eltingville Branch, in Staten Island ,NY, to make a deposit for the company I work for, while there, I asked the woman at the window, about my opening up a checking and Savings for myself personally. The woman went on a tirade, and started screaming at me with a British accent which she didn't have when I first spoke to her, she was saying crazy stuff, that I couldn't understand, I got my receipt and left, but not before I asked another teller what the other teller's name was. Martha Ruiz was the crazy woman's name, but why do you have crazy people working for you, I will not open an account of any kind with Santander as long as she is there, and I will ask my place of business to change to another bank until she is fired!

Ever since opening an account with this excuse of a bank we have received constant harassing phone calls and letters using slimy and sneaky techniques trying to sell us more of their products. No matter how many times we have asked to placed on a do not call list the calls keep coming and in fact the more we ask not to be called the more they call. Thick headed and stupid bank STAY AWAY at all costs

after 1 month research ...I chose Telebouncer TB1000 it is 100% EFFECTIVE!/ Works!
   To end 100% .."ALL RObo-calls"... Buy a Telebouncer (Tb 1000) made by Dasym Co. (a defunct technology company...2 geniuses ..of course went to higher grounds. Telebouncer about $120 dollars can be bought through Amazon & they sub purchase it through iNET Co. from Chicago,IL. ( He is hoarding like a few left...hurry!!).  He will NOT have any more manufactured initial costs ARE astronomically HIGH (since young people use fancy cell phone. I got mine shipped in priority in 2 DAYS!! Got it hoked it up in my 1 bedroom, 1 land line phone line , + a fast phone line internet AT &T internet line (="SAME PHONE LINE ENTERING THE APT. in the 2nd room"..the first room= the living room has my land line phone where my Telebouncer is...by the way)apt. in Brooklyn, NYC. & BEHOLD ....!! SILENCE !! NO Robo-calls X 24/7! Alas ! Telebouncer Tb 1000 = Sleep !! I used to get calls from all hours of the day & EVENING & VERY LATE EVENINGS & EARLY a.m. HOURS & VERY, VERY  early a.m. hours!! Now no more... It is our bestest purchase in our lifetime! I heard that it is "HARD TO GET ONE " OR NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE!!  Through iNET (a nice hardworking  man, i spoke with)sales VIA Amazon it is the AUTHENTIC stuff. Purchased it in early January 2014...& it is still working ( works easily with 1 phone line...& any fancy phone line systems put the telebouncer on the 1st line & any fancier system contact a PROFESSIONAL electrician to do it for you).
    I would have paid much, much, much more for this!  Because we have a 1 800 toll free business number attached to the same phone line (= 2 phone numbers...private + business number..that I want to keep...in addition the last 4 numbers of my private apt. home number SOUNDS like a business number already!! It almost ends in 0000!! Already! )but I want to keep both.
This all started when I got the 1- 800 number & i set up a web site etc. & I got to be on the top rankings of google ( YES! That is possible! To do by yourself! I am NOT a computer wiz or no where near it... I am in the bottom dweller of the medical field...just buy a web site through go daddy & " SET IT UP SOMEWHERE ELSE"Like through a company in Massachusetts... or more brilliant places!! ---A WARNING !!! They will try & sell you stuff, do all sorts of WEIRD THINGS! That you know came from them & you "NOT LETTING THEM """MAINTAIN """" & """MAKE YOUR WEB SITE """" !!!).

Late entry..Oh, I almost forgot... I will also back it (Telebouncer Tb 1000) up with the new (it came out in late 2013 ) Panasonic 250 NUMBER BLOCK ... tee hee... I currently only have a 30 phone number blocker on my land line phone (= that 30 number blocker BLOCKS the computer generated phone numbers ...endless numbers). The do NOT call National registry ONLY works with private phone numbers. & I have a 1 800 number attached to the same ringing phone line...as of this second month ..NOT A SINGLE ROBO CALL =)))

I am about to file complaint against them through a lawyer.I am trying to contact Congressman office for that. they cost me money and time. I tried to contact the main office,but I found out that it is in England UK Bank and has very bad reputation everywhere, Try to check in google and you will see how deceptive and idiots they are. I don't know why American Government leave them working like this.

I have been with Sovereign since 1996 through all their mergers and partnerships. It was a simple relationship. The managers and the tellers were super nice and I have liked working with them. Until 2013 when I opened a business banking and merchant account and have had to deal with their 800 service. HORRIBLE, RUDE, DISMISSIVE!!!!! First Bank dba Santander is HORRIBLE!!!! Never do business with them NASTY and RUDE. I moved my accounts to a Credit Union and will never go back.

My company uses this bank, but changing to another very soon, thankfully. Copley Square branch incompetent; all the good people left. Assistant Manager demoted - also incompetent. One window open with a line down the hallway, while other staff chit chats in an adjacent office. Kenmore Square branch WORSE, if that's possible. Park Square branch not much better. Rude employees, managers always on breaks or invisible, no customer service, no one ever calls back, requests thru both customer service at bank and phone non-responsive. THIS BANK IS HORRIBLE. Find yourself another unless you like to be aggravated. The portion of this review regarding length of service with this bank is representative to my company, not my personal account. I've been with my bank (Century Bank & Trust) for 20+ years - there's a very good reason, unlike Santander's pitiful performance (including when they were Sovereign).

I thought that I will deal with a bank in developed country, but I found myself dealing with bank in under-develop country.
I cannot believe that there is a bank in USA in this horrible level, unprofessional, very slow in their reaction, don't appreciate the value of client's time. overall just pass by and don't even think in looking to it. Be smart and BE AWAY!!

It is poor simple bank!!. It worse to be unknown to many people. If you want professional people, good service and paying your bills on time, BE AWAY of this bank. They are very slow in paperwork, they always saying call you back but never call you back (Lies) dealing with them is wasting time and effort. they checked my credit three time in one month and dropped my score.

I am forced to do business with this bank as my company uses them…but not for long. This bank is HORRIFIC!!! In Copley Square, all the good people left. The 'alleged' manager is a joke! They never return calls, they don't answer questions nor do they have a clue what customer service is all about. Stay FAR AWAY from this bank unless you don't mind waiting in endless lines (one teller while the others chit chat in an office), no chairs to sit on near tellers anymore (replaced with garbage ads extolling how great they are…not) and incompetence.

Too many problems , too many banks to chose from!
So I am going to close my accounts at Sovereign.
Very bad experience on the phone with rude agent, very bad experience at a branch on 35 st with equally rude agent. This bank knows only one thing: to take your money any which way .

Within the past three months the ATMs at Sovereign have eaten my ATM card, requiring me to reapply for one (they just don't send you a copy or retrieve the eaten card.  Worst yet you must enter your entire social security number into their phone bank to contact customer service for any reason, even branch locations. Cell phone transmissions can be easily intercepted and tone designators (both available at Radio Shack for short money) can read your SS number. Callous, rude, miserable company.

if you go back to the branch you lost it at they should have it therefor 5 days. check before you cancel the card and you won't need a new one

I was there twice this month...and will NEVER go there again..the teller was so rude...no good morning no thank-you..never smiled she needs to look for a new job....maybe looking at walls or dirt she wants nothing to do with people.....

The Edgewood Branch in Cranston, Rhode Island...I have & others have had a lot of rude happenings from tellers. The young tellers are not friendly. A few months ago I reported the event that I underwent to main head quarters.   Withdrawing 50 dollars but the teller did not give a receipt.  When I asked for a receipt she replied...WE do not give receipts.   That is not true...so finally received my receipt and $250.00 had been removed from my account.  I approached her & requested she fix it and also to show me my withdrawl slip.The young teller next to her told me she is new and not know all the rules.  Manager came over...the error was fixed but I never saw my hand written withdrawl slip.   I never go to that teller again. And she had no name tag and  I asked her 5 times for her name...she finally replied  her name is "Clarrisa   The Head Teller!"  I still, to this day,  want to see my withdrawl slip....I hear of many of these types of events at this branch.

Worst Bank Ever. People treat you like a criminal. No personality, no personal services,teller kept repeating"Bank policy is " made me deposit a cashiers check drawn on sovereign bank into my sovereign bank account when I made the check and the only issue was that I spelt the payee's first name off by one letter. Only wanted to get a new check with the correct spelling. Did not care about my urgency and mt business depended on getting this money out todsay. worst Bank ever!!!

I've been a Sovereign Bank customer for 13 years throughout various mergers and never had any major problems until I made the mistake of opening an account in the NY City Hall branch.  Two months ago I got a vague letter saying that one of my accounts was flagged for investigation by USA Patriot Act and would be closed unless I spoke with someone asap.  The letter did not specify which account it was (I have 3), and I wanted to make sure that it wasn't some scam letter.  After several frustrating phone calls where nobody knew what was going on, I figured that the letter on the address is probably where I should go - the City Hall branch where I had opened a savings account without any problems one year ago.  

The rep there spoke to a mysterious manager behind closed doors.  He emerged and said it was a very serious matter but couldn't give me any more information.  He also admitted that it was their fault that the account was opened incorrectly a year ago without collecting all information, but couldn't give me any more details and said I had to undergo a very lengthy interview to verify it.  Listen, I'm just a poor artist who pays my taxes quarterly and don't have a record with the law, so I was a little stunned by the severity of it all.  I decided it would just be easier to close the offending account and open a new one.

Unfortunately after my long subway ride home I realized that this idiot closed the WRONG ACCOUNT, and the flagged account was still at risk.  Fed up with City Hall's incapabilities, I went to the Newkirk branch in Brooklyn, where the rep there said "Oh, all you were missing was your employer information" and fixed the account status.  I couldn't believe it had been that simple, and he had to reassure me several times that the account was now verified.  But spoke too soon! Two months later I got a check in the mail with the contents of that particular savings account.  The account also doesn't exist anymore on my online banking.  No warning, no letter of explanation.  It appears that they've closed the account anyway.  

Can you imagine my fury as I write this?  Their mistake, and all of my attempts to resolve it still resulted in the account being closed.  USA Patriot Act my ass - Sovereign employees simply have no knowledge of whatever vague protocol they run with.  Could you trust your money with bankers who don't know what they're doing??  I can't!  So after 13 years I am leaving this sorry excuse of a bank.

I opened an account with this bank because that is the bank the company I was employed with did their banking. I have had to request checks twice and to date have still not received any (about 6-8 weeks now). Today I went to withdraw money which my new employer has direct deposited only to find that my pin number is now not working. When I called the bank they said that they would send a new pin and it would take 7-10 days. Now I have NO checks and NO debit card leaving me no way to withdraw my money. Also, the directions they sent in the mail for online banking doesn't work and I have been unable to access my account on line.  Horrible, horrible bank. As soon as I have a way to withdraw my money I will be closing my accounts. Have only had my account for 608 weeks and it has been the owrst experience ever! Never, ever bank with these people!

Absolutely horrible service. The person I dealt with had an attitude and knew little about his job.Do yourself a favor and NEVER EVER open an account of any sort with ANY Sovereign Bank. Their customer service is pathetic and knowledge about their duties nonexistent. I would give  them a negative star rating if possible.

Overall the service is poor. Employee service did not show courtesy in calling back. Expericneced not having enough support staff to attend the customers on week ends
