Previous remarks unfortunately posted misinformation in regards to RBC Bank (Georgia) National Association. In fact, RBC Bank (Georgia) N.A. has an agreement with PNC Bancorporation of Pittsburg, P.A. to allow RBC Bank (Georgia) N.A. clients to withdraw, DEPOSIT, transfer, even get balance inquiries at all 7,100 PNC Bank ATM locations anywhere in the US markets they serve, with branches along 1-75/I-95 from the border to Miami Florida, access to this bank is more convenient that it ever was previously. It is the only Canadian/US Bancorporation that allows foreign exchange transfers in real-time, electronically at the time of this post. The main location of the bank is in Raleigh, NC (No longer at 75 Fifth in Atlanta, with offices on Piedmont as well in Atlanta, however none of the offices are branches, nor accessible to clients for banking transactions in person)

Prior to the conversion of RBC Bank (Centura) to the virtual bank RBC Bank (Georgia) this bank was pretty good;  Services, products & technology were above average and I was a happy client.  When the bank converted to its new US platform called RBC Bank Georgia it’s been a complete nightmare and it’s to a point that I’m severing my relationship with this financial institution.

Below are a few examples of my experiences and you can judge for yourself but I caution anyone looking to leverage this bank for your financial needs.

No Brick and mortar branches:  Virtual banks need to have top shelf products, services & rates to make it attractive for people to bank with them in absence of branches.  The products of RBC Bank are average at best; services are severely below what competitors offer, interest rates are the same at any other brick & mortar bank so why bother, just go to an actual brick and mortar bank.

Deposit challenges: due to not having a physical presence you cannot make a deposit at an ATM and the only means to make a deposit is to mail it in via USPS or to use remote deposit capture.

Remote deposit capture:  Being a virtual bank you’d think they would have an operational RDC but simply put it does not work.  First off you need to call in to obtain an ID to access RDC, this is already after you are logged into their secure website.  They claim that you can use your smartphone but in actuality it does not work unless you have an iPhone, if you don’t have an iPhone you are out of luck.  The other option is to use a home scanner, if you have one.

Credit Card Payments: They make you go through bill pay to make a credit card payment and they don’t pay your credit card internally.  First off I was shocked when I went to go make a credit card payment and called into the helpdesk and they advised me to set-up a bill payment payee to pay their own credit card.  I followed their instructions and I proceeded in making a payment, it took 21 days for the payments to actually render on the credit card account.  When I was 7 days in I was calling the helpdesk as I thought the payment went missing.  Long story short I’m no longer a RBC Bank credit card holder.

Credit Line MIA, Since the conversion my home equity line is missing in action.  This is clearly a conversion issue and RBC emailed me a week after conversion stating that it would be resolved in a few days a month later it’s still MIA.

I’m very disappointed with the delivery of services that RBC has provided and will be moving on.

Being a Canadian living in the United States, I was glad to see the Royal Bank moving south. I banked with Royal Bank of Canada and was extremely pleased with them so I expected the same from their US subsidiary RBC. Unfortunately, the penny approach of RBC has resulted in a pathetic bank. I only have three branches within reach and all three operate on inconvenient schedules and to make things worse not all of their ATMs accept deposits!! In this day and age that is absurd. For the longest time I couldn't even make deposits at the only ATM that I can use to make deposits because the deposit envelopes were shut sealed by the humidity in South Florida. I had to actually purchase envelopes so that I could make deposits and even after reporting this problem to the bank they did not fix it until almost a year later.
The staff are friendly and I don't blame them for the terrible management that turned a golden opportunity into a tarnished nightmare for some clients. I left RBC and moved to a credit union as I am tired of dealing with large institutions which seem disconnected from their clients with upper management living in a distant planet where their chaos somehow seems to make sense.
