Today we went to Northern Bank & Trust Burlington Branch to cash out our savings passbook, and to our dismay they informed us that they were deducting $4 for each month the passbook had remained inactive. Since 2009 we haven't been able to save and today we needed to cash out. Surprise, surprise out of $465 left in the account, the Bank deducted $80. We were livid!!! This is unfair, abusive, arbitrary, unjust, perhaps illegal. Punishing a customer who hasn't had extra money to save in a long time is the most despicable and disgusting act any institution can perpetrate. Shame on You Northern Bank. They said the Bank sent us a letter about that! We have not received any such letter and furthermore they could not produce copy of such letter. They just charged our passbook and couldn't even produce a copy of such notice, let alone proof that they sent it to us.
SHAME SHAME SHAME SHAME is all we can say.
A few hours later we got a phone call from the Branch Mgr saying they would give back half. While we appreciate the gesture, we want all of OUR money back. Still waiting.
