Attempt to open a business account turned to a confrontational verbal altercation on May 2023. This discourages the local businesses, said business's partners, and the community they serve from placing basic trust in this bank and its representatives.
In place of figuring out weather our manager's passport along with second form of ID suffice in place of a Drivers License as identification, the interaction was turned into an abrupt verbal deterrent and disrespect. This is no way to do business.
We highly encourage any business owners around the South Suburban area of Chicago to remain far from this bank. If this is done to one, then it is surely a culture in that working environment performed against others, let alone how the depositors are treated when their monies are placed in the hands of this bank.

Terrible organization,I was never notified by Merchant's of my maintenance fee. Go negative $10.56 in the bank. Still no notification even though I have the app. Then I've been hot with overdraft fees ever since until I checked my account to see how mu account was just expecting a dollar or so. No, I find myself -$48.56 then I just keep getting hit even though I tried to talk them to stop. They won't, they don't care.

After making a deposit to my First Merchants account from my personal checking account from another nearby bank - First Merchants Bank placed a 2 week hold on the amount because they claimed that the funds could not be verified; however, they offered me $200 the next day as a courtesy and there after would provide me my money in increments but the total amount would not be available for 2 weeks. I contacted my other bank and they informed me that my check had cleared the next day and that First Merchants bank had my money and would not release it. I contacted the Corporate Customer Services office and they told me that the hold was the Banks discretion to keep my money and pay me a little each day until the 2 week hold was over. My question to them was, since I only deposited one check in my account why are they dishing out my money in small increments - either my check cleared or it didn't clear. If the money from my other bank could not be verified then why are they giving me money that can not be verified?

I've had a checking account and savings account with this place for about 5-6 years. Never had a problem. Great friendly staff. Always know me when I come in. They helped me establish credit and buy my first car! They gave me advice on looking for a car and getting a good deal and helped me manage good credit too. Will be a long time customer with this bank.

This location has the rudest and most imcompetant employees. I will go out of my way to avoid this branch; even though I live in Cicero! One time they gave me $100.00 extra cash. I drove back to the branch to return it and they wanted to argue about it, rather then admit they made an error. Not once did they thank me for returning the money.

I will have to agree with the above comment. This branch Location has unprofessional Managers who are rude and disrespectful to their clients. In addition, First Merchant system is not efficient and correct. Managers yelled my SS# out across the room; manager told me to go deal with another rep because she did not want to assist. My account was placed on hold for all transaction due to an First Merchant error. Management stated, they would not return all of the Fees. I closed my account and the management opened it and caused an Overdraft of -1036. They refuse to fix it, I called customer service they stated they would help but no help! I called branch location she stated the Manage would fix it but nothing. Do not put your money in this bank.

They're the only bank that has consistently helped me out in numerous cases. When dealing with potential fraud they assisted me in providing proof I was innocent. They do what they can to help where they can. I've never seen the place empty or without customers. (Harvest DR, Schererville, IN branch) They've even solved problems I had with chase and with credit cards over drafting my account.
Overall, I won't be changing banks any time soon. I like the staff, the environment and the bankers. I haven't had an unpleasant experience yet.

I recently stopped in to the First Merchants Bank, Crown Point Branch to obtain answers to a couple of questions. When I arrived no customers were in the branch. All of the general office area was empty (employees and customers) with the exception of one employee who was seated in a cubicle office on the far back on the right hand (street) side of the open office area. I approached and asked if she had a few minutes to answer a couple of questions. Her answer - "not really. I am very busy. Perhaps some other time". End of story. Excuse me - who is the customer and who is the employee who is at that desk to assist said customers? No customers in the branch. No other employees to talk to. Employee not on telephone. Sorry. Time to move on and find a different bank. Obviously, this isn't Citizens Financial anymore.
