Pros:
- Lots of branches in and around Charlotte, NC
- Easy to sit down face-to-face with a banker at any branch, even during the Covid 19 pandemic
- Quality of service is generally good (certainly better than I would expect from Bank of America or Wells Fargo)
- Fees are pretty easy to avoid
- High quality wealth management and investment services available to individuals with over $100k in assets
Cons:
- Abysmal savings account interest rates. Is 0.02% really the best they can do? Even my local branch manager keeps her savings with American Express. I plan to do something similar shortly.
- Account maintenance fees are just high enough to be annoying for those unable to avoid them.
- Overdraft fees are particularly punitive.
- Quality of service has declined a little in recent years. Before they were absorbed by Fifth Third, First Charter hired some truly excellent bankers. Things have been a bit more hit and miss since then.
Conclusion:
Fifth Third is a good choice if you value convenience and in-person customer service above all else. If you want accounts with high interest rates, you're better off looking elsewhere.

I'm rather new to you as an account holder but II've had a mortgage with you for many years. Even did a refi with you some years back. I know banking like the back of my hand so I know what goes on. You do need more customer service people to wait on customers in the lobby area, at least there needs to be 2 of them. I'm referring to the Lakeland, Fl. South Combee Road Branch.

While not a member of the airport branch and I am 5/3 customer at the branch near my home. The airport branch does not differentiate and has been awesome in finding ways to help me out when I've forgotten funds, lost my checkbook, lost my ATM card, etc. during my 10+ years of weekly travel. They have seen me standing waiting and opened early, helped me write desk checks for funds, and through withdrawls without ID (after asking a LOT of ID questions) They are one of a few establishments that still give real friendly and appreciatated customer service. Thanks!
