I don't understand why you can not (will not) cash a u.s. bank check for a non member. Every other bank I deal with will as a courtesy to there member. I do this to make sure funds are available. When I told her I would not pay 5.00 to cash the check she put it in the tube and walked away before I could ask if funds were available. RUDE!!!

If you have cashed checks at other banks then you know there is a fee. So either you pay the fee and know if tbe funds are available. Or go to your own bank, what is it worth to you? Oh yeah you want it free. Banks are in business to make money, they will cash it with a fee. Providing service. cash and piece of mind knowing the funds are there, is worth something. Most banks also only charge the fee if over a certain amount, so free use your own bank and tellers time and cash.

When I open my checking account the teller told me it will be free of monthly fee, I said as long as free I'm OK, because I have another account with efferent bank, after two month I saw on my statement $8.95 monthly fee. I call 1800 number the said because I don't have direct deposit, I'm shock, this is not what I sign up for. Be careful people, this teller just wanna make commission, they do what ever just to get customer and give wrong information.

My wife and I purchased a home in March to close in June. The associate, Jaci Schlautman, never updated us throughout the process in fact I called her to see if there was any additional information she needed so we could close on time. I gather the 5-6 things mid April and thought everything was good to go. In May, I checked in with her again and Jaci said everything was still pending. Long story, short we needed to move closed because their mortgage dept didn't do their job and we received a lot of excuses on why. We were told that they were making their mortgage dept work on the weekend so we could close on time and then on Monday no one called us for an update. Her bosses boss, Jed finally got involved and promised to give us $100 for such a poor job. We are still waiting for that money. I wish we didn't have our mortgage with this bank so we can close out everything with them. Awful bank

Poor Managment
 1star Overall Rating
by PRFK, Oct. 13, 2014

So I went in with my weekly business deposit as I have for 10+ years to US BANK and was waited on promptly as usual, they counted out my cash of around $6000,00 and what do you know the teller states there is a $20.00 bill that appears to be fake, it was old looking, been around for a while, but looked real to me. She set it aside and continued to count out the rest, she asked for her Assistant  Manager Katie Fults to come over and review the $20.00 bill, she came over and looked at it at on the counter lifted it into the light to check for water marks and said confiscate it with no explanation to me and walked away. So I asked the teller to explain to me so in the future I could keep an eye out for it so it does not happen to me again, she stated she would have to have Katie Fults explain it to me. When I asked Katie Fults to explain this to me she got very short with me and stated there is no water mark of a head on the right, so I took the fake $20, held it up to the light and asked Katie where the mark should be, she replied Its fake there was nothing she could do about it and asked for the next customer to step up. So I took out a $20 from my wallet held it up to the light and could not see this in my bill either and I asked if they had the pen to rub across it to show me if it was fake, the teller stated they do not have these. All I wanted was someone to help me understand what to look for in the future since I am a business owner and take a lot of cash, I don’t care about $20 dollars, I’m just glad it was only that. I will no longer use this U.S. Bank - Wentzville Crossing Schnucks Office as long as Katie Fults works out of this branch I will drive out of my way to use another US Bank in the area, and may look into other opportunities. She was rude to me, short with me, did not care about me the customer, I hope they have a camera with sound so when they read this they can review with their own eyes the not so pleasant treatment I received. I will say I never had a problem with this branch until now, but they have a very large turnover of employees, that might mean a problem in itself…

I believe it is outrageous for US Bank to charge $5.00 to cash a check that I wrote to someone who is trying to cash it at US Bank. Why charge them?  I have the account at US Bank and they can tell the person if the check is good or not.  I think it is a very bad policy and I'm looking to move my accounts with them.  UNBELIEVABLE!!!
by mrparrino 2014-10-23 07:41:53
I had a teller give me some suspicion about a $20 bill also. It was a 20 from an earlier circulation was all. The new 20's look different. This 20 was probably 10 years old if that. These young tellers aren't used to seeing these apparently. I'm sure plenty of people bring these in. Heck, ATMs still dish these out occassionaly. That's just ignorant of her IMO.

A month ago I opened a student account with this bank, I am a full time college student and I work part time on the weekends - I get paid cash and had been thinking it would be nice to have an option for a debit card so I wouldn't have to carry money with me at all times.  The student account here was free so I decided to go ahead and get an account.
On 8/29 I opened the account and put in 60$, a week later I received the debit card and logged in to my account to activate it, and found that someone wrote a check for over 1,000 dollars on my account on the 29th(hit my account on the 2nd).  A check on an account I hadn't even been given checks for yet!

I went in and closed my account that same day, and the teller gave me my money back and told me that the check was a counter check printed out there at the branch when I opened the account, but for some unknown reason was never given.  She looked and said she did not find anything else pending on the account, put a fraud alert on my information and closed the account.  I was mad that this would have happened, but figured that the worst was over.  Far from the end of this story.

Two weeks later on 9/19 I got a letter from the bank about a loan "I" had taken out.  The loan was denied because it was not enough money for the bank to be willing to cover, but now we go back the teller having told me the account had been locked down.
I went in to find out what was going on, and the same teller who closed the account told me that it was a loan for overdraft protection.  I told her I did not get the overdraft protection because the woman who opened my account had told me that since I have no employer name to file under or direct deposit I couldn't apply for it.

The teller then says that that isn't true and that it is free with the student account.  A "free" loan?  What?

I now have no idea what else is coming my way and because of this bank’s allowing an identity thief to work there I had to put out fraud alerts on my credit reports and sign up for Lifelock.

Thanks so much U.S. Bank; two things I never had to do before I dealt with you.

The drive up teller was such a brat. A simple transaction of exchanging twenties for 100 ones required an account number, I.d., and thiry minutes.
If you are in a hurry trying to run a business, find a bank who serves with personality and speed. This location enjoys pissing off customers.

I would not suggest going to the Wall haven branch.  The branch manager Karen is very unprofessional,  the day I was in there she was being very rude to the banker Erin. And their teller Allison is also very rude and stuck up. The customer service at this branch was terrible,  these two make me want to take my banking needs elsewhere.  They treat people like they are unimportant and that's not what I want from a bank, I will never go back there again.

I had a terrible experience at the US bank on Barry Road on Saturday, August 23 inside the main lobby. I was treated like I was a terrible person from one of the lady representatives and also the Branch Manger inside the bank. I was made to feel as if I was not worth anything, and they spoke down to me. I have a Master's degree and make a great salary. Instead...I was treated as if they could have cared less about me, and I was inept. Now I am not going to be a customer of theirs because of the poor treatment placed upon me. Honestly...there was not an ...I am sorry....no communication....or any niceness from the lady. Instead there were gazing eyes from her....as if I was not even worth her time of day. Unfortunately...... this was one branch of the U.S. Bank of terrible treatment from two ladies. It is sad how just one person can turn you against a place.

I have been banking with us for four years . I have found staff to be generally supportive and cooperative -,however I have had to diligent defend my money as I have been faced with numerous arguable fees . I'm tired of arguing with a bank about my money . U make it . They weasel ways to take it and one manager even said to me as her explanation " we ARE a FOR-Profit agency. " disgusting . That pretty much destroyed any of my desire to " bank. " with US that's why anyone smart with money put their money in other countries . America is going down. Because of banks - and their devious manipulative fees

I have had two bad experiences with the lady manager at this branch. One involved a $50 counterfeit bill and the other involved a $19.95 service charge. This lady is sorely lacking in tact and common sense. I will be moving my various accounts elsewhere.

I do not have an account with US Bank, and after today I NEVER will. I had a STATE of Oregon issued check in the amount of $7400,that was stamped with payable through US BANK. I went into this branch because it is the closest to my residence to get it cashed. I walked in and was told since I didn't have an account they would need a thumbprint,no problem. After that the lady told me I would have to pay $5.00 to cash it,no problem. Then she came back and informed me that the bank did not have enough large bills to cash it,no problem.I told her twenty's would be fine because I was going right across the street to Wells Fargo to deposit it in my wife's account. She came back with my $7,400 in twenty's. She then told me that she would need to get an override with her manager because my STATE of OREGON issued driver's license was too new.I just had a birthday and my license expired in June so I had my license renewed in July. Then the manager came out to inform me that the bank did not have enough money to cover cashing my $7400 STATE issued check. Instead of informing me of any other options they told me basically to leave. So, I did, and went across the street to WELLS FARGO and opened my own account and deposited the money and had a POSITIVE experience with WELLS FARGO. I will NEVER RECOMMEND US BANK to ANYONE in the future. It was by far the MOST NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD!

your reaction is funny.

it's an in store branch, the smaller the branch, the lower the limits on cash on hand for security purposes. also, newly issued ID's are more at risk for being fraudulent (think new passports, with no stamps) the always require a closer eye. 7400, is a big check. surely enough if something goes wrong for said employee to lose his/her job over. See both sides of a situation, and you'll surely walk a better path.

US Bank is pitiful operated bank and lender.   Very poor customer service.  I have never experienced a business with worst customer service.  I have been waiting for four weeks on US bank to mail a copy of my RV title to my state DMV so I can register it.  First they sent it by regular mail (not certified) to wrong location, so no tracking number was available to locate it.  Next, I spoke to 4 different customer service reps, who all promised to resend a duplicate to correct address.  All 4 employees failed to do so over the next four weeks.  After each call to ask them to send send duplicate of title, no one would ever follow up with me on the status.  Finally, I started asking for a supervisor to help me,   The supervisors would talk with customer service reps, but refused to talk to me or provide me a number/email to reach them.  All they would do is put me through to their voicemail and ask me to explain my situation over and leave a number, but each time the supervisor would fail to return my call.   I have remained calm and polite to everyone that I have spoken to at USBank, but it has not done any good.  They are not completing their responsibility and providing the information I need to register my new RV.  The temporary tags expired weeks ago and I can't legally move it while I wait.  I had to postpone a vacation.  I certainly did not foresee these problems with buying and financing a new RV.  If they have this much trouble mailing a piece of paper to an address, I definitely don't trust them to serve as my lender.   As soon as i get it register, I'm transferring the loan and will never go back.

Titles are not sent certified mail to the dmv. Do you know what certified mail is?  You have to physically go to the post office to purchase that. It is not practical to have an employee drive to the post office with hundreds of title packages that are sent out every day and stand in line and send them all certified. Considering the scale at which they are done, there is a department that does just this so they usually have correct information for mailing. All states are different. However, sometimes some states do things on a more local level and send   certain items (boats, rvs, atvs, campers, etc) to the county or they send some to the dmv, some to the county, and some to the department of natural resources. Right now, the titling department is probably waiting for your rejected title to come back to them if it was sent to the wrong location. If they were to order another title it would take probably just as long and depending on if your rv is new, it may need to go through the dealership if it technically has never been titled and is a manufacturers certificate of origin because the dealer may have to.assist in providing another in that case because the dmv would not yet have any record, if that makes sense. Once a new one is ordered and produced, its not like you now have 2, the previous title would be void so it is best just to wait for it to be returned in this case.

Let me start at the beginning....

July 25th - a check I had written was supposed to be cashed but wasn't

July 31st - went to the bank to have a stop payment put on the check as it had not been cashed yet and I was in fear it would screw up my account

Aug 4th - the check was cashed

Aug 5th - called the bank to correct their mistake. the wrong range of checks had been stopped. the stop payment fee was refunded, but later found out it was charged again this time for the correct range of checks despite the fact that the check had already been cashed. and the banker, Kelly Sherriff, knew this.

Aug 7th - called the bank again after discovering having been charged for stopping payment again. refused to talk to Kelly, as she is very rude. Spoke with the bank branch manager. The Manager refunded the stop payment fee and all over draft fees I incurred as a result.

August 11th - Today I received a stop payment confirmation in the mail, but it is a confirmation for the second stop payment, the one Kelly charged me for on the 5th when I called to correct the banks mistake. I never received a stop payment confirmation for the stop payment I placed on the 31st of July. If I had, I would have realized that the bank put a stop on the wrong range of checks and I could have called and had the range corrected.

We could have avoided this whole mess.

If US Bank had just done their job.

Oh, and I know they will say, "well it must have gotten lost in the mail and we can't be held responsible for that!"

But I live a 5 minute walk from the post office. So I seriously doubt they mailed the first one.

At this point, getting a confirmation 6 days after I called to get this mess sorted just feels like they're doing this stuff on purpose to mess with me.

I went to the bank on the 8th to close my accounts and get the heck out of there with as much as my money as possible before they stole any more, but the only banker available to speak to was Kelly Sherriff. After her rudeness and attitude and complete lack of common sense when I spoke with her on the phone I didn't feel like dealing with her in person so I left.

I emailed the bank about my problem so they could have the branch manager call me so I could close my accounts, but they responded saying it isn't necessary to go to the bank to close any accounts, so at least there's that.

After this fiasco I will just be going bank free for a while. I'm sick of fees and charges for everything I want to do with my money.

I recently asked for a stop payment on a range of checks, but the bank put a stop payment on the wrong range so the check I didn't want cashed was. The banker, Kelly Sheriff, was very rude on the phone, but I found later she refunded the stop payment fee so my bank went back to positive. She neglected to call and tell me that she refunded the fee. I found out by looking online. A few days later I got online on my account to find I was even more in the red than when I had talked with her. Turns out she had refunded the stop payment fee and applied a new fee "for the correct range of checks" despite the fact that she knew the check had already gone through and it was the banks fault for stopping the wrong range of checks. To get this solved I had to contact the bank through their facebook and then the bank manager called me back after refunding all fees and charges.

I also went to close my accounts today, but that rude banker, Kelly, was the only banker available so I left. I will be contacting the bank manager so he can close my accounts. He was actually pleasant on the phone. however, both he and Kelly managed to imply that I was a liar. Whatever happened to customer service??

I called to find out about making a payment towards the principal of my loan and I had a few other questions too.  The receptionist took forever to transfer me (and I could hear the phone constantly being knocked into) and then the banker I spoke with could not do the simple calculations to figure saved interest vs penalty, etc...  She also didn't know how to accept automatic payments from an outside source, bank doesn't allow more than one payment towards loan a month unless from a US bank acct., penalty for paying off early, and we were under the assumption the loan was for three years and actually it was for five.  Furthermore, she had to ask someone else a lot of questions and call me back.  As soon as possible, we are moving all of our accts.

Tried calling the Taylorville bank and got a long recorded message and then it hung up. Went in to open an ira at 1:30pm and there was no one that was able to do this. I will be moving accounts ASAP.
