Really enjoy seeing the staff - same people have been there for a long time.  Great place.  Free donuts and coffee on weekends. :)

“Horrible!”  (I was at the Columbia Gateway branch)

This is a piss-poor excuse for a bank. Don't go there.

It started with trying to open an account online, easy enough you would think. After requesting proof of address, which was no problem, they emailed me and told me the document I sent did not have my name on it when they must have been blind because it was right there big and bold. So I emailed them and told them to return my checks and that I would just open the account in a branch in person. In a few days, no checks were returned but they apparently opened the account anyway (supposedly without having my address verified). Not to mention getting my address wrong on the checks.

And then, I went in to the branch to deposit a check, brought all my legal paperwork for the person I am a guardian over (we're talking original power of attorney and original guardianship paperwork with original court seal and judge's signature on it!) and the manager started seriously making things up that I needed! (Mind you, this was for a $40 check). He said they have to make sure I'm not committing fraud and I gave him COURT DOCUMENTS, LEGAL DOCUMENTS showing that I had the legal right to do banking as a guardian for this person and he refused. He then told me I needed to either bring the incapacitated person in (that would be a feat!) or get a notarized letter that she is not dead! WTFlock!?!?!? I seriously think this man was just making this stuff up! Needless to say, I have taken my banking elsewhere.

I had a similar experience at the gateway branch. But I've gotten excellent service at the Columbia town center branch.

I'm not an employee of this bank but I've been in banking for 12yrs.  The things described on here are not the qualities of a piss poor bank, it's the management team taking extra precaution due to prior fraud situations using the same approach you took in opening your account online, it's upsetting to be upset when you feel inconvenienced; However, I wouldn't say the above situation makes this a poor bank.

I started banking with Bank of American and they turned out to be a great bank, until I had an issue. I changed over to The Columbia Bank and it was a good company. After a few weeks, I stopped into my neighborhood Columbia Bank Office in Wilde Lake Village Center and I was welcomed with warm arms.

I started talking to the tellers and they are great people. Soon I changed and started talking to the branch mangers and they have turned out to be great close friends. If I EVER have an issue with banking, I know they can and will help me deal with any issue I bring to them that relates to banking. I have never had such a great experience with a business and I don't think I can find many other places like that.

I tired to work with other offices like I did the WL Branch, but they were not as receptive, open, warm, or caring. I suggest every friend of mine to not only use The Columbia Bank, but to specifically go to the WL Branch office for one of the best receptions EVER for a customer!

I promise you, go there, and begin a conversation with them. You will like what you learn about them and yourself.

When I 1st started banking with TCB it wasn't so bad, after almost a year with them the tables had turned drastically.

First they upped the price of their overdraft fees from $36 to $39 and they are allowed to OD you up to 7 times in a day for various credits/checks/debits that happen. Now, in a perfect world you should be very careful to not OD your account. But since this world is not perfect sometimes you have to OD in order to pay for household staples/bills. Employees at TCB have no empathy for anyone's situation at ALL.Whenever I was going to OD my account I knew beforehand that it was going to happen so I didn't complain about it because it had to be done.But the last straw for me was when I realized I was going to OD significantly due to a payroll error so I deposited a check into the ATM, and unlike most other banks TCB does not post the first $100 to your account until the next business day. So naturally they put through checks that I had out before they credited me. I overdrew 3 times for 3 different checks. If they would have given me the first $100 we would have avoided all this. When I called TCB they would not budge on refunding even ONE. They said because they had refunded me 2 in the year (1 of them was a bank error) so they refused to refund anymore. I asked her to reconsider and reminded her that I had paid $508 this year in OD fees and to please refund at least 1 . She was VERY rude and denied me immediately. ALSO, I had direct deposit go in every single week and I would watch my account online every week around midnight to see if TCB was going to put through a check seconds before my paycheck was deposited. EVERYTIME I had a check out they did this to me. I'm not even joking when i say SECONDS. The Columbia Bank is nothing but a theiving bank and their employees are rude and will NEVER empathize with you no matter the situation. When I went to close my account the lady didn't even blink an eye to get me to try to stay or apologize about my experiences with them OR thank me for giving them $500 of my own money for there outrageous OD prices. Online website is terrible too.

their fees are less then others.  I had an issue back in 2010 i paid over 1500 in fees and i blame myself not the bank for DOING ITS JOB.  Your fortunate that they OD'd your account for you rather then bounce the check on all of your STAPLES/BILLS.  what a terrible bank you say.  You should be thanking them for extending you the credit.....grow up and stop slamming others for your mistakes.  THE BANKS IS TERRIFIC even if they charged me out the wazoo for Over Draft fees.  My fault i was writting checks that my account couldnt cash.....Here i am now 3 years without any issues....im sure they like me now as a good customer and i will never leave them as a great business.  thanks columbia bank for being there my whole banking life.  I am customer number 13 of the bank since 87 an going and going and going...
