I STARTED BANKING IN THIS BANK IN 2009 WHEN I OPENED MY SMALL BUSINESS.  THIS HAS TO BE THE WORST BANK OF ALL TIME.  THEY ARE NOT HELPFUL, BRANCH MANAGERS DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING, THEY MAKE "POLICY CHANGES" WITHOUT NOTIFYING THEIR CUSTOMERS. THEY MAKE UP THEIR OWN RULES.

ALSO, ALL THE EMPLOYEES FROM THE TELLERS TO THE BANKERS LOOK UNHAPPY.  VERY BAD ENERGY IN THE BRANCH.

I JOINED WITH CHASE AND CITIBANK.  BY FAR A MUCH BETTER EXPERIENCE ESPECIALLY FOR SMALL BUSINESSES.  IF YOU HAVE A SMALL BUSINESS STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK.  TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE!

I can't believe this bank has the nerve to charge a company's employees FIVE DOLLARS to have their paychecks cashed against the billion dollar account that their employer has with these thieves. Every time I'm in their there's a new "notice" taped to the teller's windows stating that yet ANOTHER service will be taken away for the account holders there.
And yeah....I could walk in on a really slow Weds. with no one in line and have 4 tellers ignore more easily for five minutes before one of them begrudgingly calls me over.
Also their hours STINK.
10-4 mon-fri ONLY. And I'm pretty sure they're closed for things like Arbor day and Groundhogs day too - lol.

The staff is horrible!!!!!!!  Special people who sit on front with attitudes over their head. They make mistakes and then make you pay for it. Even if there is no people in the bank, they still make you wait, sometimes for an hour and then speak to you like you owed them something. Girl Maya is the worst!!!! Do not bank there!!!

Was sending a wire transfer overseas which I have done previously with no issues.  It's almost 2 weeks money is out of my account but not where it should be.  Mind you it took two full days to complete.  The workers are incompetent have no idea what they are doing, and if I haven't called in the last 2 weeks would not have received a phone call that there was an error.  The branch manager is very unprofessional, as you can imagine my frustration I spoke to him thinking he would resolve the issue or at least try to calm me down...no, he hung up on me!!!  Honestly they really need to be retrained on how to handle customer service and at least how to answer a simple question regarding wire transfers (this is something they should already know)...called the 800 number and got my answer immediately.  For future reference western union is the way to go...money in minutes and transfer fees are lower.  Needless to say I and everyone I know will be changing banks.  They are the worst!

I 'started' to open my business account in December of 2012.  I own a small business, sell product in 20 countries, and have been operating for 5 years.

Its November, 2013, and despite numerous hours on the phone, the account is still not fully functional.

Absolutely incompetent.  Their customer service is horrific, dismissive and hubristic.

I would stay away, even if I had enough throw away money to have a $1000 an hour lawyer liaise with them.

If you need a job I strongly suggest working here, as their employees get paid for doing nothing, and have no personal work ethic to want to solve problems.

We have been a customer of this bank for over a decade.  The first issue began with a forced split of our personal accounts (inter-bank sale) which went to First Niagara, our retirement which went to another group, from our small business account which stayed at Hanson Place HSBC. The business relationship representative is always "out to lunch" when we visit the branch. Deposits got lost in the mail, and we began depositing them in person at the bank.  Two weeks ago we got a letter that said they were closing our business account in 60 days.  No explanation.  UNBELIEVABLE.  Resetting up our payments, etc. will take at least half a day, if not more since it involves multiple parties.  We just ordered new checks, at a fee.  No one bothered to call, no reason was given.  The branch says that HSBC didn't give them any information, either, and that "yes, lots of people have been calling to complain."

I have used this bank for 5 years, service has been worse and worse. I waited over 1 hour to talk to customer service, they were polite but too long to wait. I tried to call the Portland Branch. just got an 800 computer automated service, never a live person to ask a simple question. I use the bank because of my commercial business in Hong Kong, but HSBC sucks...!! Suggest another bank, these guys don't really care about service. They allow or want everything to be automated. FORGET HSBC..!

I opened all my US accounts with HSBC, simply due to my positive experience elsewhere. I am yet to get a response from the responsible person about my lockbox after many calls and run arounds.

They are charging me $60 per month for "paper" lock box. I've sent a request to go "paperless" about six months ago.

After failing to get this sorted with the people who set up the issue, I've called the business banking customer service gave me the name and number of the person who is responsible. Left three voice mails, still not being able to resolve my issue.  Not happy at all.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I EVER EXPERIENCED

by AmandaA, Jun. 19, 2013

I went to this location multiple times hoping to resolve an issue with my premier account manager Bonnie Luo. She had no desire to help me so I finally decided I needed to speak to the bank manager Sophia Jackson. The lady at the customer service desk refused to let me speak to her. She told me Ms. Jackson has stepped out to lunch at 3pm and told me to come back an hour later. I soon realized they close at 4pm! She lied to try to get rid of me. I quickly returned to the bank before they closed and the lady tells me I cannot speak to Ms. Jackson but to speak to Bonnie Luo instead. Ms. Luo tells me her manager Ms. Jackson is  already aware of my issue and doesn't care and won't resolve it for me. She won't take the time out to speak to me. She goes on to tell me that they FORGOT to do what I asked and it is their fault but they will never take fault for it. I spent an hour trying to get Sophia Jackson to speak to me about the issue and she refused to come out of her office. I have never been to a bank where the bank manager refuses to speak to a customer asking for them. It was made very clear to me that Sophia Jackson didn't want to take responsibility for their own mistakes. These employees are so unethical and disgusting.
Bonnie Luo is the worst premier account manager that exists. She has given me so many problems over the 3 years that I have been with this bank. She is not knowledgeable and simply says she "forgot" to complete tasks. She is definitely incapable of managing accounts if she is such a forgetful person. I guess this is fine for Sophia Jackson as a bank manager because she is just as forgetful as the people working under her. She is clearly incapable of overseeing all the problems that go on in that bank.
If i could, i would give this branch zero stars. They have the worst customer service and will never resolve issues for you. They will admit they are wrong but rub it in your face telling you they do not care and won't give you the time of day. DISGUSTING!!!!!!! I will definitely be closing my account there. I will never return to such an awful place. My advice to anyone banking here is to be careful. They are so unethical here and will never help you resolve problems.

The staff are either indifferent or have an attitude. They became engaged only when they tried to sell their financial products on me and then gave me a cold shoulder when I told them I wasn't ready to have them assume my retirement account, give me a home equity line of credit, etc. It wasn't enough that they were making money off of my money and giving me barely any interest. So, I switched to TD Bank where at least the banking hours are more convenient and the staff is much nicer and more helpful.

Actually it’s much worse than poor. I was loyal customer of HSBC when I was in Hong Kong. But this one in San Diego disgusted me. Today I met the most ridiculous thing in many years. I called to make appointment to open “Premier accounts” and a Lady named Cynthia answered the phone. She said all the bankers I have met before are not there (either having vacation or not available…), but I can come in anytime this afternoon and she can open the accounts for me. I asked her, “are you sure it’s OK without appointment? It takes me a long time to drive to your branch”. She said yes, they can open the accounts for me today. So I confirm the address with her and heading there right away. However… after 40 mins drive, when I arrived HSBC San Diego, Cynthia didn’t show up and another lady name Laura told me Cynthia has no right to open accounts for customers and no banker is available to help me. She asked me why I don’t make appointment and whether I came to a wrong branch… So I have to drive another 40 mins to come back without anything accomplished. By the way, these two ladies sit side by side in the lobby. All in all, this HSBC branch treats customer like FOOL or even TRASH. Previously, some banker there was not communicating with me in timely manner. I didn’t take it seriously, because I loved and had faith in HSBC Hong Kong. However, taking appointment is the most basic thing in business world. What should people expect if bank strew them even on easy things like making appointments? What I can conclude is maybe HSBC is not ready to service customer in U.S.

If Hong Kong people or any of the rich Mainland peasants are involved in a banking the situation- I go elsewhere now. Why help those who play pathetic, then curse you when your not around. Was nothing learned by the Vietnam Error ? When I lived in the Kowloon district of Hong Kong, a crippled man in a wheelchair asked too many camera-related questions- so, the staff closed the "security" door and went to work on him ! I knew then, what the US govt. still does not know. All culture was destroyed by Mao. New Chinese have no reliable foundation or ethics. The semi-new guard is thus- not necessarily better than the staunch Maoists. Stupid nationalism is always dangerous regardless of the flag. Helping Chinese banks establish roots in the US ? What is wrong with everyone ? Do you not realize that Bush basically borrowed money from Communist China to finance his invasion of Iraq months after invading Afghanistan? ALL Apple products and many others are made in China; NOT the USA. Is this OK with you? Yes, lets just skip down to the local Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation... la-dee-dah. The Fox News Club including Donald Trump (as Hootie the Owl) tink Obama is to blame for America's economic woes? Now, I've had a falling out with him- but for other reasons(Gitmo and now... he has screwed up investment prospects for American Expats. Sorry for the side-story! The moral of the story is: Do beware of the Middle Kingdom. It's time American started bringing jobs back to the US and stop thinking Americans are unaware of how other nationals seem to be a higher priority. My 2-cents worth on China is: They will take whatever we are stupid enough to give them, and with a smile. That which we do not give them- they will try to take through corporate and cyber theft. They are not your friends. Even though they may look cute when they're young... just like baby alligators.

This bank has no interest in servicing the customer. They do not know their own products or services. They do not follow up on what they say they will do and that goes from the branch VP to the teller. Do not waste your time or put your money at risk with this bank. Wow... I loved reading all of these reviews. Well heres a great HSBC experience. I recently received a bank wire transfer. Seeing that it was an internet sale of a car I was selling, after I received the money  I got nervous because the purchaser had all of my routing #'s and savings account # and names and addresses. So I decided to transfer these funds to my checking account. So I do my normal phone transfer and when I got my confirmation # I realized that it sounded different... so I check the balance in my checking account and it is not there. It is always there so I call the bank and they find out that I transferred the money to my HSBC platinum credit card. Ok so this is where the fun begins... Like all of you other past customers, I could only reach India and although the do speak great english...sort of like when you study for a part for a movie. I swear it is just A manequin with a computer generated response system.... like " MAY I PUT YOU ON A BRIEF HOLD? IT SHOULD ONLY BE A MINUTE OR 2"  THEY HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO ANSWER ANY PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER. So anyways... they figure out that I made a payment to my credit card that has a $0 balance. Unfortunately it takes 1-2 business days before it posts to your account. I beg them to cancel it because it was a $35,000.00 account transfer that went to the wrong account. So I wait the 2 days and it finally posts... now it hits the fraud department because of its size. Then I learn the real juicy stuff... Capital 1 bought HSBC's credit card division...so even though it says HSBC platinum credit card...it is actually serviced by Capital one...who has their own rules and regulations regarding overpayments. Between the 2 of them never being able to agree on anything discussed, it took 10 days for them to refund my money into the original savings account. They said the process if you request the overpayment to be returned is 1 -2 business days after it is confirmed in the fraud dept, then it takes 3-5 business days to actually receive it. It was like dealing with MARTIANS! Nobody ever saw such an overpayment so everybody went WHOOOOA...thats some overpayment. And laughed. They all say "I WOULD BE AS CONCERNED AS YOU! WELL IF YOUR THAT CONCERNED COULD YOU POSSIBLE IMPLEMENT A RULE IF THIS HAPPENS THE TRANSACTION COULD BE SIMPLY CANCELLED.  They just wanted to hold onto the $35K for a few days and grab that little bit of interest. I cant believe with all the stories this bank is in business. I find it hard with all banks...the people seem medicated....like preprogrammed robots. So its basically a mess...the entire banking system has become so impersonal. They never look up in fear of a person making eye contact and having to answer a question. Its a shame that an American institution has fallen to the point of making it hard to get what's yours...and what make this world go around. And the kicker to the story was I lost out on a business deal that required me to cancel and out of state business trip that could not be completed without those funds. I am also a Premier account holder and they made no exception for a 20+ year customer. And I have this credit card for over 15 years. What a shame.

I was at the branch on 48th Street and Madison Avenue, New York, NY to withdraw some cash for lucky money given to kids for Chinese New Year.  I was told they didn't have brand new bills there but I kindly asked the girl at the counter to at least find me bills that look new.  She ignored my request and counted the bills without checking the conditions of the bills.  When I got the money from her, the bills I got looked worse than the ones people withdrew from the ATM machines.  She even questioned my signature despite I gave her my government issued picture ID with my signature on it.  I ended up depositing back the money to my account at another branch because it just made me feel bad to give old bills to the kids for lucky money for Chinese New Year.

A mail-in deposit went missing in early October, 2012. I called the branch to investigate, and got no assistance from the branch whatsoever in tracking down the missing checks.  My "Premier" Relationship manager had left the branch six months earlier, but no one ever contacted me to tell me to stop sending checks to him. Was told by HSBC Premier customer service that "Priscilla, the branch manager, personally confirmed they did not receive the checks."  I managed to get one check reissued, but the other issuer refused to cut another check.  TWO MONTHS LATER, on 11/23/2012, both checks suddenly showed up in my account. I called right away and told customer service that I thought the checks would bounce, but she said they had already cleared. I pointed out that I had now been paid twice and was left having to sort that out, and she suggested that I write the payor a personal check!  Of course she was incorrect, and a few days later both checks bounced, and I was charged check return fees. The company that refused to reissue their check was having financial troubles and has since filed for Chapter 11; I believe that if HSBC hadn't held my check in their branch for TWO months, the check would have cleared and I would not be out $2k. On top of that, they are trying to charge me a check return fee that only occurred because my checks got lost in their branch for two months. No one has explained how or why my checks went missing for two months. Priscilla, the branch manager, refuses to speak with me. Really terrible customer service from the Premier team, and NO ONE has called or followed up.
