Terrible bank manager in FRB, Orinda. Does not know much of anything more than a teller and talks behind the loyal, long standing bank customers and deliberately does not offer things like loans, deposit boxes, etc,. based son who she " likes" or does not. A chip on the shoulder best describes her. The employees know more than she does. Yet she meddles into everything they do at the cost of holding business back in usual transactions.
Terrible experience and best to take business elsewhere.

BE AWARE!! I have lost a lot of money with them!!! I used to like this bank, until I actually realize they had made a mistake and sent my money order 2x. They cost me a lot of money. It is an inexcusable mistake for a bank. The worst part is that they did not return my money, even though they admitted making a mistake. Don't trust a bank that cannot stand by their clients. You could be next. If you experience any issues with them please let me know. I need support to recover my money.

I am in my 70s and have lived, worked and banked in five states and three other countries. Other than banking in Japan, First Republic has been the most efficient, helpful, cooperative, and appreciative of loyalty. Even though I no longer have a large income, the staff have never changed their highest-quality attitude of professional AND personal service, including major complex problem-solving with an identity theft. For the past eight years the Pine Street branch, located in the stuck-up Financial District, has been of great support to the small company I work for, and the Chinatown branch near my home has for the past two years provided trouble-free communication that other banks in the area -- Chase, East-West, and Wells Fargo, for instance -- have not. (I tried the others first because they had outside ATM access, the Chinatown branch's only flaw!) First Republic has maintained its standards through our "recession", takeover and merger bids. I am proud of their reputation and secure in banking with them. This is one of those rare exceptions to the arguments of Occupy; if there were more such businesses there would be no need for Occupiers.

This bank has all the feature of the BIG brick & mortar banks BUT a much higher yield.
I use their services via teller's, atm's, telephone and internet. I have even atm'd euros when I was on vacation in Italy - without being charged fees and without an exchange spread. I like free stuff and I saved several hundred euros (or dollars) by the end of my three week trip. Gelato for everyone!
They also give out free Zagat guides, calendars & umbrellas. There is a tv and there are free freshly baked cookies in the waiting area - I have not tried the cookies because I don't believe in communal food.
I like the higher yields and free stuff. (Their yields are much higher than those at Chase, Citibank or BofA).
The deposits are FDIC insured (only up to $250K).
