I'm personally insulted and financially hurt by the negligence of the employees at the Aurora Hampden branch, Manager Joshua Collins.
Warning small business owners: If you use your Wells Fargo business account while traveling you will be charged excessive ATM fees, up to 25% of the ATM withdrawal amount you make. Wells Fargo maintains a policy of penalizing small business owners who choose to use their ATM card while traveling abroad.
I opened an account in 2012 at the Hampden-Quincy Aurora Branch of Wells Fargo, during the account opening process I informed my banker that I was going to be traveling in central America for at least 90 days, my banker neglected to inform me that I would be charged extra fees. While traveling, I had limited internet access but when I did check my account online, I discovered to my dismay that I was being charged sharply for both usage of ATM and any merchant transactions. The fees cost me anywhere from 10% - 25% each time I made a withdrawal.
The real mistake here is that even though I informed my banker repeatedly upon account opening that I would be traveling abroad, they did not tell me about these excessive fees. I called the branch and explained to the branch manager, Joshua, that I was being charged excessive fees and that there was a customer service mistake made upon account opening. This is what happened over the course of the call:
He had worked for the bank for 8 years and the bank's policy was to charge fees and never work with or give personal consideration to customer circumstances.
Despite the customer mistake made he made no effort to do anything to help me or to appologize.
He didn't ask me any questions about when my account had been opened, or by whom or how I was using it.
Made no effort to extend me services that might actually help me as the customer of the bank.
He took no steps to verify my account ownership.
I operate a marketing firm in the Denver area and have over 100 clients, I intend to inform them all and any other small business owners in my circle of influence of Wells Fargo's policy of charging steep fees to small business owners who travel. I think it's really sad that the managers of Wells Fargo, are much more committed to charging small business account owners fees than they are to doing the right thing or informing account holders of relevant policies at the time of account opening.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Roseland
