We have been USAA customers for over 20 years. We always found the pricing on their services competetive,especially for the insurance. They have generally been exceedingly helpful. Recently we had an upheaval in our family requiring a POA for an adult family member. Most of the reps we had to talk to went out of their way to help, assuring us they would to all they could. We got the items we needed taken care of, only to find the accounts locked up a few days later, and closed without notice. There was no fraud, no overdrafts, nothing of the kind. Just some obscure policy which they could have informed us about while on the phone, instead of waiting and summarily dismissing everything, leaving us no way to pay our family member's bills for over 3 weeks. They closed the accounts without intent to fork over the multiple thousands of dollars in them for over 2 weeks, at which time they planned to mail the checks.

I have never had a bad experience dealing with USAA.  Their people are competent, responsive and friendly.  We have checking, saving, auto and household insurance with them and EVERYTHING is available on line.  In those instances when only a human can help the people who answer the phone are prompt and courteous.  The only negative is that sometimes there is a wait and sometimes you need to push a few buttons to get the right person.  But even if you screw it up they correct your error immediately.  They are so good that I got my entire family to bank with them (parents, children and grandchildren).  Anybody who ever served in the U. S. military is eligible and anybody who is eligible and isn't a member is making a mistake.  They also offer the best insurance products available anywhere and the service is spectacular.  If I actually had enough money to invest I would be investing with their investment advisers (who do not work on commission).  USAA has also not taken one cent of government bail-out money.
