I went to my local Suntrust on Wisconsin Avenue (Cathedral Branch), Saturday afternoon, Feb 3rd, about 30 mins before they were scheduled to close, so that I could transfer money from a CD/Money Market fund to my checking account.  I first stood in line for one of the 2 tellers at the tellers' desk.  The wait was taking long, about 10-15 mins, so I asked one of the other bank employees if I should continue to wait to transfer this money with the teller.  He said, no, you'll have to speak with one of us to do the paperwork.  I asked if there would be enough time as there were 2 other people waiting for the more personalized service at a separate desk.  He said, "Probably".  I said, how long do you'll think I'll have to wait?  He starts to get a little snippy, and tells me I can go to the Suntrust on Connecticut Avenue, because it closes at 3pm.  I ask again, "but how long do you think I might have to wait here?" and he says, "30 minutes".  This would theoretically put me there past their closing time.  So I sat down to wait.  As I was waiting, another employee comes out and starts turning out the lights, and one of the 2 tellers was packing up to leave.  I asked him, are you closing, and would I have enough time to do my funds transfer?  He said nothing and just stared at me like I was speaking ancient Greek.  I asked again.  He goes, "Oh yeah, you'll have time."  About 15 mins later, the first guy says, "OK, you can come to my desk."  I go there and put my coat down.  He says, "I need your ID".  I give it to him.  He asks what I want to do.  I say, "Transfer all of my funds out of my CD and into my checking account".  He looks at the screen and proceeds to tell me that I don't have a CD. I ask, "Are you sure? Because I have the deposit slip", which I handed to him.  He starts getting angry at me,  "M'am, I'm telling you, there is no CD."  Now I'm getting very worried.  Maybe he's looking at someone else's account. I said, can I see what you're looking at (on the screen), and he angrily shifts the screen toward me, and I can see by the amount, that the CD is indeed there.  I say, "That's it right there", pointing at the screen.  And he snapped at me and said, "That's NOT a CD!  That's a money market account!".  And I said, "Well, that's the one from where I want to transfer the funds
And he’s getting rude at this point and starts to mock me for not knowing the difference between a CD and a MMF.  And then I said, “I’m sorry I don’t know the difference, but that account is where I want to transfer the funds out of and into my checking account.”   (This is about the 3rd time I’m telling him this).  Then he asks, “Are you closing it out or just transferring?”  And I ask, “Is there a fee if I don’t close it out?”  He said, yes, there’s a fee.  So, I said, then yes, I wanna close the MMF then and shift it all into the checking account.  Then I ask, “How soon can the funds be transferred?”  And instead of just answering the question, he says, “Look, you’ve been giving me attitude ever since you walked in here and I can have you thrown out of here if you keep it up.”  EXCUSE ME?  I’m now in a state of shock.  So, I said, “I’m the customer, I’m asking you to just transfer money from one account to another, why is this so difficult?”  And all he said again was, “I CAN have you thrown out of here.  I have the power to do that.”   Now, I’m looking around to see if anyone is hearing what he’s saying to me because I’m completely incredulous at this guy’s crappy abusive attitude with me.  And I’m totally exasperated with him at this point.  So, I said, I don’t understand why you’re not willing to help me.  Finally, he say, “I’m getting a witness.  I need a witness to this.”  And I’m thinking “to this”?  To him being abusive to me.  So I said, “Please do.  Please get someone else involved with this.”  So he goes over to the teller, says something to her that I was too far away to overhear, and he gets her to come over to his desk.  (She’s apparently the supervisor.)  And she could not have been nicer or kinder to me.  She could see I was getting very distressed with this guy, and she was so kind and solicitous to me.  She immediately took over the transaction, said she could help me at the teller’s desk.  So I took all my paperwork over to the teller’s desk and she essentially took care of the money transfer and closed out the account in less than 5 minutes.  I don’t know why it was so hard for the other guy to accomplish this.  But I will say this.  Avoid transacting in this bank unless you work with the teller who’s first name is Paula – she is wonderful and extremely helpful.  The rest of them – not so much.

Many problems with the Suntrust Branch on Hull Street in Brandermill area in Chesterfield Va.

I have banked here since moving 3 mi from here in 2002 as the convenience of the drive up ATM is the ONLY reason I do.

Repeatedly I have deposited checks here say on a Mon before noon, and the deposit is not available until Wednesday !!!!

Their answer is "that's the way it works"....pitiful....

Then today 2/5/2018 at or about 1615, was the last straw. I needed $850 as that was too much to get out of the ATM so I was waiting in the 2nd lane whilst the 1'st lane was being serviced. The teller who looked like he was hired out of the 'Hood, finished with the first lane and then took the next car ahead of me, even as I was next.

I waited about 20 min and then he decided to wait on me. I told him I wanted to take the money out of my account and sent him my ATM card.

He then proceeded to take another car in the first lane so after another few mins I hit the call and ax'ed him what the problem was....he flashed me a dirty look and went back to what he was doing.

After 45 mins....in the drive thru.....I threw in the towel and went inside and got finally the manager, Jennine? as she pulled out papers wanting me sign in multiple places....so I took a STAND......as all I wanted was to take money out of my account.

I just said NO ! I crushed up the check and walked out, then drove around to the ATM around the back of the branch and got out $400 as I now have to make another trip tomorrow.

Attention Women ! I would advise NOT to use the ATM in back unless a passenger is present.....as it's poorly lit and there are woods back there AND its a high crime area !!!

This is NOT the same Suntrust I signed up with in Atlanta in 1990 !

I have never had a bad experience with Suntrust and recentl found they are moving out of Kroger.  This makes me very unhappy.  I like the convenience of having them in Kroger, and I am not happy that they are also moving out the ATM machine.  What is Kroger thinking?  I have dealt with Suntrust for 8 years in various ways, including a mortgage, and now find Kroger is kicking them out of their stores.  If another bank moved in I will not do business with them.  I am not happy with Kroger right now.  Maybe we need a Wegmans here and Suntrust can move in with them in the Cave Spring area.
