DO NOT OPEN A BUSINESS ACCOUNT WITH COMPASS

I opened a new business account with Compass. The staff was great, but the home office does not respect due process and overreacts.  I opened my account and deposited over $4000 in customers checks.   Unfortunately, 4 of those checks bounced.  We have no control over our customers actions, but Compass made me feel like a criminal and froze my account over the actions of our customers.   This was completely unfair and locked up my funds for days.   This action made no sense whatsoever and was no way to treat a new customer. If you have a new business, I would suggest going to a larger business friendly bank and avoid Compass bank completely.   They are way to paranoid to handle business accounts. As a business owner we want our bank to be a partner and not a bureaucratic nightmare.

My 80 year old Mother recently lost her checkbook.   She went into the branch on Main Street in Gainesville, FL and was immediately approached by Nancy Hurst.   She was very helpful and spent a great deal of time closing her old account, working with SSA, opening a new account and ordering new checks.  Mom went back into the branch several days later and was immediately approached by Nancy who even remembered her name.  She did everything possible to reduce the stress of the situation and all really appreciate Nancy's hard work and kindness.

I have had some bad situations dealing with this branch since 2009 but the worst 2 and the last 2 were yesterday 12/23/14 and today 12/24/14. at 1pm. I have 5 companies and these 5 companies are ran under 3 business accounts at Compass Bank. We also use the Leander TX. branch which is much better. My so called banker  Andrew for the last 2 to 3 years is failing me big time as a banker and the bank personal as service to their customers. On 12/23/14 I pull up to the bank at 5. pm and I did not realize the lobby was closed. The door was locked but Andrew and 2 other women see me and 1 motions at the drive thru. I go to the drive thru. I send in a deposit and then a with draw slip and deposit on another account. This account I have had since sept. 2009 I believe. After a few minutes of me and Andrew and another male teller speaking over the speaker Andrew said he can got give me the funds unless I sign another with draw slip. So I sign 1 and send in my ID. They claim they did not think it was me. I thought I see you every day at the bank and I just came to the door where the personal pointed to the drive thru. I said okay they are having a bad day and just left after taking about 10 to 12 minutes getting the funds to pay some of my men their bonus money for Christmas. Today my son calls me at 12.30 and said I just went by Leander branch and they close at 1.pm.I said o my God I have two employees left to get the money for their Christmas bonus. These guys were out of town till the 24th. I rush over to my branch at Anderson Mill. I am relieved at 12.55 or 12.56 to see people at the drive thru. I went to get in line but my employees who were waiting in parking lot for their money said these cars have been waiting a good 6 or 7 minutes. I then saw a banker holding door open at bank and I ran over to the door. The guy was then at Andrews pickup and the bank door locked. I looked at my phone and said look I have a really important withdraw to make for these 2 men sitting over there can have their Christmas. The Hispanic man said o well we are closed it is now 1.02 pm. I said well Andrew is standing right there so tell him I am going back over there to the drive thru which is maybe 30 ft. away and wait my turn but the truck in front of me has been there for ever. I sat in line till 1.08 by my phone. The canister, tube went back and forth 3 times. Finally the customer moves. I pull up to get the tube. The tube closes just below my fingers. I said I can not believe this. I went back to the bank door and knocked. The Hispanic man came back to the door and said come back on Friday. I said can you here me okay. He said yes. I said well you tell Andrew that on Friday I am moving my accounts all $1,200,000.00 worth of deposits this year to another branch. I am calling his superiors in Compass and speaking with them. I SAID YOU SEE ME SITTING HERE AND WILL NOT HELP OUT ON A 1 MINUTE TRANSACTION.I am letting everyone now know about this hopefully causing Andrew his job, I have dealt with guy on a first name basis for at least two years.
Never been treated this bad by a so called banker ever. I will never deal with this banker again and that's that. May change banks entirely. And keep in mind this happened on Christmas Eve at 12.56 pm to 1.10 pm. I have already reported this to customer service and they have someone that is calling me back by Monday. The outcome was that we got a store down the street to give me $920.00 on a ck . that I wrote them to cover the Christmas bonus for one employee. The other employee is doing without any thing from me, his company. Until Friday morning after Christmas when I can finally go to the Leander Branch.
I will say the two lady tellers at the Anderson Mill branch do a good job but they have to deal with Andrew on any big issues. Again I own 5 companies and I am 53 year old and it takes a lot to get me to write something to a bank like this. Something has to be done.

This Bank over twenty days ago locked a customer account without notifying him and claims it was due to a investigation going on because there was a possible data breach from the Home Depot Debit Card Data Breach. When he went in to make a withdrawl is when he found out, and they treated him like a criminal and still two weeks later now haven't given him an answer, they are about to get a call from an attorney that I'm sure won't be to pleasant. What this Bank and all bank need to understand It's NOT YOUR MONEY it's the account holders who gave you the privilege of holding it for THEM and yes you all allowed to make investments with that money this is why the FDIC insures banks so if they make an investment mistake the account holders are covered if the investment fails.Again I will reiterate IT"S NOT YOUR MONEY IT IS THE ACCOUNT HOLDER'S THEY ARE GIVING YOU THE PRIVILEGE OF HOLDING IT FOR THEM AND YOU AS A BANK AGREED TO GIVE THEM REASONABLE ACCESS TO THEIR MONEY. We are account holders not customers and shouldn't have to beg for our own money. We aren't in there buying anything from the Bank you aren't a retail store you don't sell anything but a service, nothing physically tangible so quit disrespecting your account holders by calling the customers.

both managers of this bank are sorry. after waiting extroidenary amount of time on simple transaction. was yelled at by assistant manager supposed customer relations manager. contacted next day. was told you know you were on camera. what does that mean. i guess they made a police report on me getting my liscense and check back. is that illegal. during conversation with managers was told we would be more than glad to cancel a 7000 + bank account over the phone. what kind of bank is this. try to contact corporate managers about this. never called back. in the mean time i am in the process of getting rid of my account and credit card from this non customer oriented bank. beware of this bank. i have found them stealing money in my accounts several times and have had to confront them about this. oh well who cares. i just thought i would tell all about this.

So sorry about your situation and I am in the same boat.  I am in Missouri now and haven't gotten a new bank acct yet. I went to the ATM to get some cash and the machine sucked my card into itself.  I was furious and the banks wouldn't work together.  BBVA was supposed to OVERNIGHT the new car for $50.  They didn't do it and itstead of getting it overnight it's going to go reg mail and I won't get it until next week sometime.  We tried all the up to the president of the bank and couldn't get a fair deal.  So I know what you mean about that bank and get the hell out of that bank.  Good luck

I would give them 0 rating, but it wont let you....

So I opened an account at BBVA compass bank online and after being "approved" for a checking account it, the website, stated that I had to go inside a branch and pay to open the account. $50 minimum was required.

It took me about 3 days to find the time to go inside the local branch at Corona, Ca. I went in there and it seemed to be a pleasant experience at first. The lady that helped me did say that she "had to cancel" the account I applied for online due to some system error, that is a very broad and commonly used term and excuse by companies these days! Anyhow, I said it would be fine to cancel it but I wanted only a checking account. She said that it is fine. She also said that there was a program and gave you a FREE savings, what a bunch of BS, but I said ok and took the FREE checking to leave. I gave her $50.01 and she deposited in the account. Then she said I could "automatically" deposit $25 a month to my savings from my checking. I said I didnt want it. Anyhow she pushed it onto me. So I took it. I left the bank and when I got home, I called the branch and said I didnt want the $25 automatic deposit from my checking and they said that is fine and to call customer service, And I did that.

I lost my job and income about 1 month later. The bank kept sending me bank statements and other paperwork, So I called the customer service and said what is going on with my bank account. He told me that I had 4 accounts, I told him I did not have 4 accounts. He stated that I was NEGATIVE $150.00 on one of my accounts in ALL FEES. I asked why, he stated that the person at the branch NEVER CANCELED MY ACCOUNT, AND THAT EVERY MONTH THE BANK WAS TRYING TO PULL $25 FROM MY ACCOUNT AND WHEN IT WASN'T THERE, THEY CHARGED ME A FEE....wow. I never got that money, so who did, the bank!

One day I opened the statement and it said I had $50.01 in the checking account. So I went into the bank to get the money, this was around 10-18-2013, The lady at the counter said ok, but she had to wait for another lady to get back. I think she said the supervisor. Anyhow she said to wait for 20 minutes or go and come back. I did as she asked, When I got back the lady that came to help me was the SAME lady that opened my account. She took me to her office and said "You can not get your $50.01 because your other account is $150 overdrawn...I smirked and said I never took any money from the bank, why do I even have an account that is open and overdrawn, she said "bank police, sorry".

So the bank TOOK, STOLE $50.01 of my hard earned money and kept it, I NEVER wrote one check, Never took money or did anything with my account, the bank just took my money...... I hope that attorney general can get my $50.01 back for me.....

The staff here are very nice, but not well trained.  I don't think the staff is at fault for most of the problems. it is Compass Bank itself.  There is always a problem with almost anything you want to do except basic banking.  It is a very nice branch, not crowded, and not busy at all, even though they think they are busy, there is never any waiting.  They just don't know what busy is.  They do not return calls.  They never have an answer to a question, they have to check it out and call back which will take a whole day.  When you visit the branch, they are busy talking to each other.  I wish they were better, but they have poor leadership.

The only reason this bank is getting one star is because they don't allow you to give them zero stars.  First of all let me just say that this bank has the most horrible customer service of all the bank I've banked with before, both the branch and the 1800 number.  My bf and I opened an account back in February and they have given us nothing but trouble since the beginning.  First I understand we are all human and as humans we make mistakes but no one person in this business is willing to admit that they too might hire people who for lack of better words are not fit to work in a service business. My boyfriend and I have been disrespected at this branch, they spoke to us in a condescending manner, they told us we were free to close our accounts implying that "since they are such a big bank" they do not need our business, and put all the blame on us for their mistakes.  In addition when we called the 1800 number they take forever to answer, when they finally do they just keep transfering you from person to person failing to resolve you issues and they do not you back even when they say they will.  And to top it all off they are only opened on saturdays until 4 and not on Sundays.
So let me tell you just one of the mishaps we had with this bank so that you can be aware of what a bad business it is.  My boyfriend found that someone was committing fraud with his account one Saturday afternoon.  How? who knows because he didn't loose his debit card or anything and out of all the banks we have had we had never encounter fraud (just showing just how not only their service is bad but their security as well).  Well, as you may already imagine he noticed the fraud on Saturday afternoon and well of course the customer service was already closed until that Monday.  So he's only option was to observe his money disappear little by little without being able to do anything about it as his bank was closed.  Now Monday finally got there and in addition to the terribly moneyless long weekend he now how to wait a until the bank did the "investigation" for his money to be returned, being that if they only had been opened he could have stopped some of the fraud while it was happening.
Now I have worked in a bank before and I know that they can reinstate the money to the victims account right away, being that the customer has already been through enough. I mean it's not like it was 1000 dollars and being the average american we live pay check to paycheck and having to wait one whole weeks to pay our bills is not a pleasant situation.
So, I said I don't understand how the fraud was possible as I mentioned that he didn't loose his ATM card right.  Well obviously if they somehow got a hold of the card number and they were able to make an online purchase right? However the unexplainable thing was that these people were buying food, such as long john silver (without and ATM card)... this to me is just wrong and just reflects on the banks poor security measures with their products.
To end this I just want to reinstate that this was just one of the mishaps we had with this bank and we have only had this bank for about 6 months.

Terrible banking experience- with savings account.  Because I don't keep a high balance- NOR do I deposit a minimun every month- I am charged $15.00--- SOOO, guess what, when I'm already struggling to keep my head above water-- now I learn $15 was taken from my meager savings.  Wow-- that was going to be my lunch money for the rest of the week.  Nothing like being kicked when you're down.  Shame on you Compass Bank.

Trying to get a home loan completed from my sellers and the buyers who are using Compass at the North Loop Location are stong buyers now are not closing on time causing their son to not have a place to live, seller to pay more out of pocket and me to cancel a vacation. nobody will answer their phones or return calls. Closing will be delayed by several days causing huge headaches for everyone! I would not recommend using this bank if you want to close on your home when you plan to!

I have been a customer for this branch for more than 10 years.  I have worked with multiple branch managers also from the same branch.  They help me started my business account.  Eventually, the current branch manager Andrew Drobny help me get a line of credit to fund my business.  I know all the bank tellers.  They are polite and super nice.  They called me by my first name and I did the same to them.  The corp does not have very competitive interest rate but they still get me because they are so friendly and helpful to my needs.

I have been with the Waxahachie Branch for years. They know me and I'm not one of their very wealthy depositers but they treat you like you are. Very personable. They get to you as quickly as possible but don't try to rush you out the door. They take time to make sure you are taken care of. I don't know where the negative reviews are coming from (maybe competing banks) :)  I had a little problem with a re-finance a few years ago but had nothing to do with the personel at this branch. And it was eventually taken care of. I would not want to bank anywhere else. Its got a real small hometown feel....kind,very professional without being 'stuffy'

I've had nothing but issues with a business bank account there. They want to always put holds on the checks (even tho I've been a customer for 2 years an never had a bounced or cancelled check). Everyone acts nice but no one seems to know what they are doing. They'll tell you one thing, an you'll call customer service an get told something different. I've opened a chase account to try them instead after being tired of the problems.

I had a terrible time with Washington Mutual Bank. They wouldn't give me a credit card for my business until we'd been in business for two full years. (It's an LLC for my rental property.)

I went to Compass Bank, walked in, and said, "I have $30,000 in accounts I'll transfer here if you give me a credit card for my business."  The manager said, "Done."  And it was.

I've been a happy customer of Compass for about eight years now. I've used four different branches in my travels, and all have exceeded any expectations I've had.  Banks have gone down the drain when it comes to customer service, but Compass has always been the opposite.  Their people remember my name, they answer any dumb question I have (and I've had many), and they're very knowledgeable about their business.  I've done a refi, I've had safe deposit boxes, I've done hundreds of deposits and withdrawals, and I've wired money. Never a problem with any transaction.

So, kudos to the staff at the branches in Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, and Englewood, Colorado, and also to the branch in Corona, California.
