I had been a customer of M&I bank for 30 years.  After they were bought out by BMO everything went to hell.  I closed my accounts on October 31st.   On November 16th I decided to try to get onto the website to pull an old account number from the bill pay.  When I logged on I was surprised to find that the accounts did not show as closed.  Rather it appeared as though they had been charging me overdraft fees daily since the 31st.  In checking the account detail it was evident that other than the withdrawal I made to close the accounts there had been no other checks to hit.  They are charging me overdraft for a zero balance account.  

I called the 800 number (as it was Saturday and the local branch was closed).  After waiting 30 minutes for a representative I explained the problem to a nice young girl.  She asked if she could put me on hold while she checked into it.  30 minutes later she came back on and said she could not get a hold of the person she needs to to figure out what was going on.  She asked if she could get back to me next week!!!!  Unbelieveable!!

On Saturday November 2nd my fiance stopped at this bank to make a deposit for me (as he does for me every pay week). I had two checks and a bunch of cash (I'm a server in a restaurant). He went through the drive through, made the deposit, got the slip and all was good.

That same day I checked my account and saw the deposit pending. Thinking nothing of it, I threw away the deposit slip.

On Monday the 4th, the deposit was still pending.

On Tuesday the 5th, in the afternoon, I checked again and the deposit was totally gone. Not in pending. Not in my account. Over $1,000 missing.

I called the bank, gave them my account number and was told they'd call me back in 15 minutes.

After half an hour, my fiance got mad and called. To which he was told that they'd figured out the problem and were fixing it. But God forbid they call me back! I'm sitting at home freaking out over a lot of missing money and they can't be bothered to call me back like they said they would.

They explained that when their banker wrote my account number down (we always just give my license and they look it up) one of the numbers wasn't readable, so the money was pulled out. But hey, don't bother contacting your customer about it! I was told that the money would be in my account no later than Wednesday.

So here it is Wednesday and I look in my account and what do I see? They deposited the money TWICE.

What is wrong with these people? I can't trust that they know how to do their jobs. I can't trust the money in my account. And now I have to call them again today and chances are they'll give me some half-assed apology, try to fix the problem, and screw it up even more.

I'm so fed up. This didn't happen when they were M&I. What the hell changed?

If you're looking to switch to a new bank, pass this one up. They're a bunch of idiots.

Worst bank EVER! THEIFS AND LIARS. Valerie especially. She stole money from me and SHE personally canceled my card so I was unable to draw money out of my own account. I knew one of my accounts was overdrawn and was told if I paid it within 6 months I'd have no issues. Valerie decided to take matters in her own hands WITHOUT my permission and took out funds from the postive account not once but twice! Then she said she would reverse the $35 overdraft fee and when I went in she called me a liar in front of other customers. They definitely are by FAR the worst bank and know nothing about customer service. Wouldn't be surprised if somrone pocketed the second withdrawl. I have been a customer over 5 years and do not deserve to be treated this way DO NOT OPEN AN ACCOUNT HERE otherwise you may find some of your money missing

Actually, everyone at this bank has been very helpful.  They reversed charges on an overdraft even though it was my error.  They have given me good advice as to how my account might be upgraded to gain more advantages.  Maybe being pleasant and smiling at people helps.

I am a very happy person and always smile. Just don't like being lied too. If it weren't for that old b*tch Valerie my ratings would be hire. Matt is very nice and helpful. Valerie tells you want you wanna hear and lies and doesn't follow through with what she tells you. She should be fired. Have a great day :)

You spelled "thieves" wrong. And everyone besides you loves Valerie. She's patient, helpful, understanding, and easy to get along with. I drive out of my way to go to her branch because I like dealing with her. It's really sad that you're bashing her like this when you probably didn't even know what was going on with your card. Seems like you're one of those arrogant people who always think they know better.

Went in to our local branch this afternoon to talk to a personal banker.  I was the only one in the bank on a Friday afternoon, but the teller told me I'd have to come back on Monday because the PB was on the phone.  Must have been some call!  Thinking of closing my accounts.

I' loved BMO but then I moved & started banking at the ROGERS MN LOCATION and they are FAR BY THE WORSE BANKERS EVER! THE MANGER KIM & HER BANKERS AND TELLERS ARE VERY RUDE AND SO NOT WITH IT . I have no idea how that branch can continue on doing what there doing . That manger KIM likes to be IN CONTROL she makes things HER WAY OR NO WAY ... strongly thinking about calling the local media to investigate that bank its that bad - They lost a costumer of so many years all because of a newbie manger that has poor customer service and acts like she knows it all... people like her shouldn't have a job especially that kind of job I highly recommend everyone to stay away from this branch !!!! VERY VERY UNEDUCATED people not knowing what there job description is and obviously a turn over in staff

I  changed banks over a year ago due to the horrible service i receive at BMO harris. I hated that my funds were never available, and when i would transfer money i couldnt touch it for 2 days. Anyways.. the company i work for uses BMO so i've been having to go to this location weekly and I am still dissatisfied with my service. It took over a month to get my checks, they did not tell me my routing number changed-good thing i checked.
I think it is ridiculous that they are not open until 9 am. how can anyone go to the bank before work?
I have received the wrong receipt twice now from the tellers.
Overall, BMO harris does not do anything to accommodate to their customers, they do what is best for themselves.

Teller does not pay attention to details caused massive overdraft

I went in on a Wednesday and had a teller who we will refer to as "Bob" move 11K from a savings to a business account so we could write our payroll checks out. I made sure to tell him exactly which account to put the money into and reverified with him the money went into the right account. I handed himthe deposit slips, the bank cards and the checks. He confirmed it did. Two days later my card was declined for  $35.00 lunch. Talk about embarassed in front of my client, who happens to own an automotive dealership. I then looked up my account on my phone and found a 8900.00 overdraft. I immediately called the branch and talked with the same teller that did the deposit for me two days prior. He indicated to me he did put the money into the business account. The problem is he put it in the wrong account. When I confronted him about that error he was passive like it really didnt bother him or he couldnt grasp the issue. When I spoke to him about paying attention to the details and that I had asked him twice if he had put it into the right account he confirmed the account title and that he had it in the right account. I asked him to confirm that no checks had been returned as NSF he confirmed they had not. What a bunch of crap. One of the checks had been returned causing all kinds of problems for us to deal with. WHen I called the home office they told me that the teller did not do things according to bank policy and that he could have contacted them to make absolutely certain that no checks were being returned and did not.

Again It's all in the details, the details that this kid-teller did not care enough to check on. I had been a loyal M and I depositor and will now be searching for a new business bank. I will be leaving with my accounts as soon as possible.

Tomorrow I will visit the branch at 8:30 a.m. and I am going to demand they contact my client and rectify the problem.

I entered this branch as a non customer. I have been looking around for a new banking solution, and decided to see what BMO is about. I had five rolls of quarters which I hoped to exchange for cash. When I inquired at the counter, the employees rudely told me that they only do such for customers. That's fine but you just lost a potential customer. FYI, I drove to Bremer down a few blocks and they did the exchange for no fee and no questions asked. They didn't even tear apart the rolls.

I have closed on 6 houses in my history and never have had such an awful, drawn out experience as I have just trying to refinance with a bank--and BMO even had my original loan! I understand that mortgage (and I am sure refinance) rules have changed and tightened up since the "bank scandal." However, my banker wanted only to close the deal, gave me all kinds of erroneous information (copies of W-2 okay vs. real ones, don't need tax form, then that they need 2011 FOR SURE when they needed 2012....etc. etc. ) But I was told none of this until AFTER the appraisal was paid. (It was so bad, I have excellent 800+ credit and was going to switch banks except the appraiser was not on its list so I would have had to pay the $500 twice--otherwise I would have!)

Re: questions not able to be answered--for example: My husband is not on the loan yet the bank insisted he had to sign papers but my loan officer could not tell me what the papers were let alone what they meant! I had to contact the title company directly several times to find out! And then, the closing, after my arranging it at his convenience at his office (instead of the one across the street literally from my house) and in the morning (not afternoon) as was easier for him, he emailed me 1-1/2 hours before the closing to tell me he would not be there despite setting the date two weeks in advance. He said that he would "be downtown most of the day" and no one else from the bank was present!

It was so awful that, as frugal as I am, I did not save $200 to have a direct mortgage withdrawl from the bank because I would NEVER switch my regular banking to this establishment. Sad as it could have just been my bank assistant but I am not willing to take a chance to find out.

Peshtigo branch is awful. Office manager is not very professional, rude. They are slow. Going to be moving somewhere else.

I banked with the Peshtigo Branch for many years and I have found all of the staff to be very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend using the BMO Peshtigo Branch.

I didn't realize how bad I had it at this bank until I was finally fed up enough to transfer to an alternative. The local team is ok, but it's the bank overall that is really draining to work with. They're a typical old-style institution that nickels and dimes the customers.

BMO Harris Bank is awful, I can't seem to find one branch that can do things correctly.  The last time I walked into the bank, I handed the teller cash to deposit, she didn't even count it and managed to type in the amount wrong.  I made the mistake of not looking at my receipt until a few days later.  When going into the branch to have it fixed, I received a nasty look from the woman that made the mistake and then she even told me she hadn't balanced her drawer in a few days so it would take her a few days to fix this.  Seriously, they screwed up and refused to fix it?  I tried to order checks via their Customer Service center and they said I had to go to a branch, I hung up, called back and got someone else who ordered the checks for me.  Appears that every time I call or stop in at a branch I get different answers to the same questions.  So the key is at BMO Harris Bank, if you don't get the answer you want, hang up and call back - eventually you'll get the answer you want.  Absolutely awful!

Over the years I was a commercial customer there the following has happened......

They got me in a ton of debt, per the advice of the banker I had at the time.  Granted I signed the dotted line and I will take most of the blame for it, but my decisons to do some of this was partially based on the bankers poor advice, he retired and I am still paying for it.

They switched the minimum balance in the checking account with out telling us.  We found out by getting charged a fee.

They wouldn't let me cash a check made out to my business because I had a "personal" account with them even though my business name is on the checks.

Our loan that was always current got put into the "naughty list" of people who don't pay because someone coded it wrong.  It was a nice kick in the pants after being on time all the time, even if it was a mistake.

Our business is doing much better now, I wanted to see if BMO had cheaper rates so I met with a banker there to see what they could offer.  I showed him my paperwork he had a lot of positive things to say and I figured we were in good shape.  I had to call the banker after 10 days to see what was going on, turns out their board wanted nothing, I repeat nothing to do with us even though we have always fufilled our end of the bargin.  Even some more conservitive bankers than BMO were willing to do business with us.  That was the last straw!

The only thing I will mis is some of the cute girls in the lobby!

Worst Bank EVER!!

One Feb 2, 2011 I went into the Sun Prairie Branch of this Bank to make my first car payment.  I handed the teller my check and loan payment slip with my acct number.  I received my receipt and I thought my transaction was complete.  I was wrong!!  On Feb 28, I received a late payment notice plus $10.00 fee plus I have gotten several calls from their collection department.  I have opened a claim to fix this, but it is still unresolved.  I don't know how they could have messed this simple transaction up!! This bank takes your money, accuses you of not making your payment and makes you prove that you did in fact make your payment.  They not only try to ruin your credit report, they waste your time. I would never open an account at this bank and can't wait until I am done with this financial.  If you bank with them, keep all your receipt they will screw you over!!

Tonight, I cashed a large check which their mobile app wouldn't let me process. Fine. Then, I had to physically walk it into the bank because of the size. After they cashed it, I took it to the bank where I have a loan (I tried them on that loan but a credit union which I have no relationship was able to beat their price by a lot.) Anyhow, I took my dog to the vet tonight and when I went to pay, my card was declined. Horribly embarrassing. The same thing happened at the gas station. I called corporate and they told me they had a hold on my account until my check cleared and that they wouldn't even release enough money to put gas in my tank which was empty. I called the local branch and even though it was almost 6pm, the bank had a person in-house who answered. I spoke with the actual banker who had handled my transaction and he told me that it was their policy and there was nothing that he could do and that I should have read it in the book BMO sent their customers in Oct. and then he told me that I should go to a Twin Cities branch to close my account since the work mobile number I gave him was from a Twin Cities zip code. (I work in WI, just in a town 30 min from the closest branch.) I'd also like to add that I just returned from Florida where my mom and sister both had cards shut down by institution who questioned fraud until they confirmed that they were the ones using the card. I never informed BMO I was in FL and they never called. I'd also like to point out that I have never been late with a payment and have an exceptionally high credit score and I that it's been nearly 11 years that I have been a client there. I'm banking local as soon as I can navigate their policies to get out.

A service fee charge of $7.00 caused a negative balance of $6.98 in my personal checking account . An alert by the bank could have remedied this and I would have avoided the $ 35.00 overdraft charge that I incurred. I will be banking elsewhere soon.  Online navigation is not user friendly ,MI online was better.

Drive Thru is SLOWEST IN THE AREA!!!!

I will avoid this location at ALL COSTS!! I've been a customer for 15 years, had several accounts with Harris. This is very inconvenient because they are 5 mins from my office. It doesn't matter who it is in drive-thru, what time of day (before or after work or lunch time)It takes them 10-15 mins or more to do a simple deposit. One day I waited in drive thru for 10-15 mins and THEN the teller said she would be with me in a minute. I told her to forget it and send my items back to me. She made some rude comments and sent my items back, I then drove to Harris in Roscoe, I timed the deposit and it took less than 2 minutes. I dont know why but everytime I go in drive thru at Brynwood location the teller always retreats to the back area for quite some time (behind the partial wall where lobby tellers are) and then comes back to drive-thru teller area several minutes later and processes my transaction, INSANE! Literally every OTHER location is great just the Brynwood location is HORRIBLE!

Just went to this bank to simply cash a check, the very blonde worker you have is ALWAYS very rude to me and I am not the only one who has noticed her rudeness! I will be calling this bank and talking to the manager. Im tired of the crappy costumer service, I will definitely be switching banks! Not impressed and learn to get a much better staff! I will never recommend this bank to anyone!

my parents started me with a savings there when it was south west and that was fine, they never really gave me issues. after it turned into BMO it was terrible. they kept me on the line for an hour and a half just to tell me i couldnt set up a money management account since i was 17, after me mentioning that many times over and over and asking if it was okay to be a minor and them saying yes until i mentioned i was going to come in the next day to set it up only to find out i couldnt. they also charged me a $5 dollar fee to print a statement when they never mentioned that i would be feed to get one. i know 5 bucks isnt a lot but they should have mentioned that i would be feed before hand!
